I have an Extra B18a1 lying around. (i think it has worn rings & cams) What should I do with it? Everyone suggests the Ls-Vtec, but wouldn't it be cheaper just to get a GSR & better reliability? i wanna get at least mid 14's

the jdm motor has more horse power and torque, not sure on the num. but the usdm style motor has to coinside with the us emission code so it has cutbakes(smaller portholes and things like tht i belive)
AND as for the other dude its all opinion and wht u wanna do,personally it cost the most to do all motor, the cheapest way is nitrous oxide but me favorite is forced induction and i would go with the ls block with a v-tec head(if yall have more ? just ask and ill try to help)
By the way im not a newbie, they restarted me or something and deff. not a newbie to turning wrenches.

Get a GSR. With the LSVTEC, the head is fine, but your making the block do something it wasn't designed to do, and that is rev to the moon. For reliablilty, get the gsr. I mean, have you seen a LSVTEC go past 120k+ miles? I don't think so...

Some1 just got thread jacked lol.

For the guy that Originally posted this, They only have a usdm b18a1 which comes from years 90-93. But the years 92-93 b18a1 has more power (about 10hp i believe)
There is NO jdm b18a1. If ur lookin for a jdm LS engine, go with an obd2 jdm B18b. Most powerful out of all the LS'

Years and miles driven are two different things.

Well if u want me to be specific, as a daily driver.
Drivin approx 45 miles a day for commuting, for about 2 and a half years out of six. 5 days a week.
The rest about 15-30 miles a day? somwhere around there.
And even raced all night at least 2 tuesdays out of every month. The only thing that went was the rings and head gasket twice. Thats all. Completely stock b20 block, wit a 2000 si head wit ctr cams, stock valvetrain, bolt ons, etc.... Thats pretty reliable to me

Oh and even the tranny went out b4 doin a different set up.

yea and the ls block is just as reliable as the gsr,the ls block has lower compression and is better for a turbo the grs is better for an all motor set up because its higher compression
