interest in a radius marking tool
the tool would always give you a way to mark a line perfectly perpendicular to the tangent line of a piece of tubing....
thoughts, interests?
pm me for specific questions.
lets not turn this into a sale thread as im just curious about marketing ideas...

What advantage would this have over a centerfinder? As a line from the center of a tube is by necessity already perpendicular to the tangent.... Also I'm pretty sure I've seen a tool that looks like a pair of sliding calipers with a fixed extension that does pretty much this. Just a thought, maybe yours is better? Good luck.

im not making a center finder. the center of a bend is invisoble so it would be really hard to mark it then cut a bend using its "center"...lol
the purpose of this tool is so header fabricators can cut on radius everytime so there is no ovalling in their tubing.
and yes it will be a lot less than 130 if thats what youre suggesting...

Aaaaah yes, I was thinking you were making this for some purpose on a collector or something. Yeah what I was thinking would be pretty much useless to you :-)
Anyway I get all my random machine stuff from my local production tool supply store
http://www.pts-tools.com
they've got at least a dozen center finders if anyone needs one of those instead, hahah rediculously good place to shop, I have to restrain myself.
Seems like this would be a good idea for those of us who build things with less than professional tools (ie chopsaws) to help keep things square. Build a prototype!

i will make one sometime. just gauging the market as of now.
dont want to give away my idea so someone else can just copy it like everything else people make for hondas, lol

this isn't what your looking for but its a cool tool.

the guys on the miller forum say different but what do i know i've never used them. they look like they work. maybe better to use a tube notcher for round to round but for round to square it looks like it would be a good tool to have.
my method of marking tangent is by using a straight edge, it's not as accurate as using a jig but it works for me. If I were to design a jig, it'll be a block w/ a groove the size of the OD of tubing you are using w/ maybe a little bit more tolerance from the actual OD for fitment issues over the tubing. Slide the block near the beginning of the bend and make sure the block sits flush and close to the bend as possible, then scribe a line
Seems pretty interesting, you're right about the fact that the tool wouldn't work on a 10* section of a 180 bend because there's no length of straight, maybe finding the center of bend and marking the center as a reference and using a protractor you can use the straight edge of the protractor a scribe the 10* section you want, but that wouldn't be as accurate since the scribe wouldn't follow around the diameter of tubing. hell I'm just only a tube bender, you should know more than me, when I talk to engineers it gives me headaches because they're too smart lol, would love to see what you come up with
ha.
yes sometimes engineer-speak is rather annoying.
i dont mean to do it too much but i caught myself telling my dad about the static moments of my welding cart i made the other day

^ Hahha,
The worst is when you see something and think "this is poorly designed" and you redesign it in your head or start crunching numbers to validate your initial assesment.
Happened to me with an electrical timer I installed last week, and whenever I see cheap gimicky tools.
Have you built a prototype for yourself yet? Just for a little testing or anything?

yeah i do that all the time.
the prototype is in my head, lol
ive already stress tested and run cyclic loading on it up there too. im just that smart.
no ill be doing it shortly though, maybe even tomorrow. thats sounds good.
