Default b16a valve spring upgrade question

hello, I have found out a great deal about my questions just by searching and looking in my manual, however I still don't know what all must be removed from the head in order to change the valve springs (past the cams that is) can the rocker arm assemblies stay in place? or do they have to be removed? thanks!

excellent. i was also told that I will need to get valve lash adjusted due to different heights the springs will hold the valves at... is this true for this engine? and am I to assume I will have to adjust valve clearance too? thanks!

The springs will not affect the valve lash provided that your valves were previously seating properly. I recommend adjusting the valve lash while the valve cover is removed.

You will need to remove the following the valve cover and camshafts. Hold the rocker arm assmeblies together with rubber bands. If the do come apart, you just need to compress the VTEC pins to allow the rockers to realign.

Are you doing this with the head on the car? (It can be done but you are risking dropping a vlave into the cylinder.)

yes the head will be on the car. I will use compressed air and a spark plug socket to hold the valves up... how much psi do you think will be needed?

i have also heard of putting rope in through the spark plug hole but I think I would trust air pressure more.

also, is the valve lash something I can adjust myself having never done it before or is it sorta complex to do? as far as I know the head has never been pulled of and the valvetrain is 100% stock from the factory.

thanks!

Valve lash is simple. You just need a set of feeler gauges.

I used compressed air as well. You do not need much pressure (20psig).
