Timing Belt
Hi to all,
I have a 2001 Accord EX V6 Coupe. I live in Canada.
The manual says that the timing belt should be changed at 192,000 km for severe weather confitions for which Canada qualifies. The dealership says that I should do it at 100,000. I have 112,000 km on the car. What should I do? should I change it now or can I still wait? Also, is it true that when changing the timing belt, I should change the water pump at the same time as it will be cheaper on labour because of the water pump's location?
Thanks a lot to anyone who answers,

for severe DRIVING conditions it is 60K miles or 96KM. For normal driving conditions it is 105K miles or 168KM.
Severe driving conditions are defined as
Lots of stop and go traffic
Extremely Hot outside (over 100 Degrees F for the majority of the days)
Short trips where the engine does not have sufficient time at operating temp)
extremely dusty conditions
Bone chilling cold (below 0 Degrees F) for the majority of days
Excessive engine idleing
BTW it's approximately 1.6KM per mile so that is where I got the numbers from.
I know of several Honda dealers that tell people 120K for the V6 belt but personally I would never go much past 105K. Most if not all honda dealers will quote you a price of between $650 and $720 USD for the complete serivce which would be
Timing Belt
Water pump
Coolant service
Drive belts
and any other wearable parts that they have to take off to get to the belt.

I have to agree with my evil twin YeuEmMaiMai
Canadian severe conditions: 60,000m / 96,000km
The strange thing was, This showed up in two repair manuals, but the footnote wasn't printed in n owner's manual. Go Figure
The footnote read:
temps above 110f / 43c or below -20 / -29c
Even stranger: your dealer was correct !!!

P,
I think most of the Honda dealers have learned that if they want to make a crap load of cash, they need to
1. Be competitive (most are in my area)
2. Offer exellect service
3. Give you options about what needs to be fixed now and what can wait...

Well... at least the one's that don't pay their service writers by commission.
As Elvis might have said "There's a whole lotta Overselling going on". Sorry, it looses something in translation.
But yes, that's really the only way to do business, recommend whats needed and let the customer decide...
