Default Sqealing sound when in reverse??

Hello, I have a question. I have a 2002 Honda Civic Ex. Lately I hear a sort of light metal grinding sound coming from the front when I am in driving mode. It is a 5 speed. It comes and goes, and I am pretty sure it is a brake issue. My question is about when I am in reverse. I hear a Loud, constant sqealing sound. Could this be related to the brakes needing replaced as well? It seems to be coming from the same front drivers side. I have 49,000 miles on it. I have never had a single issue with any of my past Honda's and they have run well over 100K. What do you think? Could it be transmission related? That would be pretty ealry for that to happen, but I still have that covered for a month. Thanks in advance!
