Default Buying new car 98-02 accord wtb

I'm looking into buying a newer accord and I was wondering if you guys could give me some input. I'm completely familiar with the civic, but not the accord. What year is the best for reliability and power and gas mileage? What should I specifically look for when inspecting the car during the test drive?? I would like any knowledgeable information that you guys could give me into making the best investment with my hard earned money. THanks

Although they are not nearly as common as their counterparts, try to find one with a manual transmission. The automatic trannies in 6th generation Accords have an extremely high failure rate while the manual transmissions are quite reliable. Other than that, all 98-02 Accords have pretty much the same power output, trim to trim (comparing ex to ex or lx to lx).
Good luck

Definitely, go for the manual tranny. I find that the 4-cyl engine in my '02 Coupe is perfectly adequate if I let it wind up. The gas mileage is amazing, too.

nothing beat a 3rd gen for being bullet proof, they roll over 200K like it's nothing

6th gen have an AWESOME look, 5th gens are a bit smaller and look great too, but my bias is on ownership experience...6th. yes, i agree about the manual tranny. V6's aren't too bad either but once again, manual.

I'd say look for a 6th gen V6 with a busted trans....

I bought my car for $6K put a new trans in it and all is good now. KBB of car with a busted trans is 1/2 the value of a properly working one and once the owner realizes what it will cost them to fix the trans, the are usually more than willing to part with the car for half of it's value.

Advantage of V6:

1. Butter smooth
2. A lot less engine moise
3. Passing power on the HWY (yeah, baby)
4. Did I mention that you can do a 3.5L swap and $ for $ it is the best bang for the overall perforance gains?
5. No torque steer even under WOT
6. All V6 come standard with ABS brakes

Disadvantage

1. If you are on the throttle too much 15MPG can been acheived
2. Insurance sucks compared to I4 cousins
3. Trans is a crap shoot and it'll cost anywhere from 3-5K to fix (it wasn't an issue for me becuase I still got my car for less than it's worth even after fixing the trans)
