pm'ed mean that someone sent you a personal message.

to check them: click my profile at the top of the screen, then click instant message history..it should show usernames of all the people that sent you messages. sorry cant help you on the compression of a gsr though

If you have pop-ups allowed on this site your pms should also come as pop ups, they do for me,

 

GSR compression ratio is somewhere around 10.6:1

Also, I dont think you can use PM as a trial user.
