06 si compared to s2000?
Hey guys. I'm looking for a comparison of the s2000 to the new Si, in those ways that a comparison is valid. Before I'm flamed, I'm aware of the fundamental differences, but I want to know how it compares in straight line acceleration, gear box feel, cornering, etc. I'd appreciate any input seeing as how test drives are impossible. THanks.

As you know by owning one...
The S2000 was purpose built to be a top-notch roadster:
* Front-mid engine (totally behind the centerline of the front axles)
* Aisin built transmission (not Honda) feels like a rifle bolt action
* RWD
* Near perfect weight distribution
* Supremely rigid chassis for a convertible
* Lightning fast responses (low polar moment)
The list goes on.
Through autocrossing other people's S2000's on many occasions since the car was introduced, and owning Civics personally, I can say that there is NO WAY comparisons can be made! Since I compete, my impressions of the car are biased as I've only ever driven them in anger (maybe 100 autocross miles versus 10 street miles).
Seriously... You have to ask yourself some big questions, they are:
1. What is your intention? (Daily driver, autocrosser, track car, all of the above?)
2. Is a roadster a feasible option based on where you live, work, or local climate?
3. Are you married?
4. Will you be married within 5 years?
5. Are kids in the picture?
6. Based on 3, 4, and 5 could a paid-off S2000 be joined by a dedicated daily driver (sedan, minivan) and allow the S2000 to be kept as a true race toy?

1. daily driver....trade in the RS on it.
I'm not sure where your questions are going. I'm considering getting a civic, not another s2000. I think it certainly qualifies as a practical car.
Are you saying that the s2000 is so superior in every respect that I'll hate the Si?

The new Si is a nice car, but the S2000 is superior from a performance aspect. The handling is going to feel much better as well as the brakes. Straight line acceleration won't be that much greater, but overall from my encounters in an S2000, it's a lot better car.

Allow me to clarify... Is the Civic Si EVENTUALLY GOING TO REPLACE BOTH cars you currently own?
If "yes", then I'd have to say the new Si is superior to the S2000 in the respect that it can be used in a more versatile manner (carry stuff, people, etc.) and still be run at autocrosses, track days, etc.
From a truly pure performance aspect, never.
While I have not driven the new Si, I do own a new 2006 Civic LX Coupe which will be a daily driver / serious H Stock autocross car. Yes, the improvements to the chassis were so profound over the DC5 and EP3 that it makes me not hate MacPherson struts. The car steers as well as the S2000's I've driven... And it prompted me to sell my 93 DX Coupe which was a dedicated autocross monster of a car.
I'd have to say that my new car feels very much like a new Si except for the drivetrain as I know for a fact that the Si isn't all that much stiffer in the shock/spring dept. than the LX / EX models.

Are you guys finding them with Navi? The dealer I just spoke to said that they hadn't started making them with it yet, but I suspect that was his way of saying that he couldnt get it. He was doing his best to push another s2000 on me.

I'm more than sure the Si is being sold with navigation already.

For a daily driver, the SI would be better but I daily drive my S2000 with no complaints. Its personal choice.
From a performance aspect, S2000 wins every category...acceleration, braking, handling, etc...
