So, I visited one of the local honda dealers looking for a new bike. Opinions?
You might remember a thread I made or what not, but I'm in the market (I hope) for a bike. Upon completion of the MSF course next month, if I get into it, I plan on getting a
Honda CBR 600. I like the look and its not an incredibly huge bike. I'm getting it for a few reasons.
I am trying to build credit. I have a paid off car already.
I've always wanted to learn.
I need a little bit of a hobby for the weekends.
My dad rides a bike as well. Looking to meet some new people, etc.
I would rather get an older model like a 97-2002 or something. I don't really want something brand spanking new, but then again. I'm not buying a bike -Tommorrow.-
ANYWAYS. Long story short, out the door the bike I'm looking at. (A few actually) are all 06 CBR's 600RR's, go for 10k. I'm looking to finance this bike. I was told that the payment would be about 200 bucks a month and I'd need full coverage.
My questions are, what do you think of this idea? Should I keep shopping for a lower price? I'm not buying until I complete the course, just getting my feet wet.
Is it too high of a price? I was told I won't find a different payment as honda uses the same financial plan throughout all of the dealers.
I have some more questions, but I have to run and have forgotten some of them.
Please guys, gimme some ideas/opinions/advice.
Thanks in advance.

Have you ridden at all (besides the MSF)? Mayhaps you want to get an older 600 to learn on. Something that's not so vicious as the 600RR. Those bikes will bite you, and HARD, if you're ham-fisted in the slightest way.
If you do finance, you're required to get full coverage by the finance company. If you buy the bike on credit, it's a good idea to get full coverage. In fact, the best theft deterrent is insurance (I guess that's not much of a deterrent...no thief will stop and say, "Oh no, this bike is insured by Geico.").
Save your money by purchasing a less-new, more-inexpensive motorcycle so that you can spend more on gear.

The ZX6R (before it jumped to 636ccs), which is the current ZZR600, makes a decent 600-starter bike.
But go with what you like. Any specific CBR6? You listed years that span four of them...

Any bike can be ridden at the track.
Just get something YOU like. You can always bring it to the track whenever you feel ready/up to it.
Racing is a different beast. Don't worry about that for now.
Just know that this track thing gets addicting after awhile. It's the Gateway Drug to racing.

like marmalade said they key is buying what you like. most of the bikes made in the last 5-6 years have such marginal differences that a new rider would never be able to tell the difference. and on the new bikes even a experienced rider will have a hard time. not only that but you will never see the bikes limits. bikes these days are designed to take the punishment of the worlds best riders and give it right back.
like i said get what you like depending on looks, ergonomics and style. if you buy it and dont like riding it that much you wont ride and thats a problem.

that insurance thing isnt true, you dont have to have full coverage if you finance its only a honda thing, with yamaha, kawasaki, and suzuki you can get liability insurance and still finance the bike
and do not pay 10 grand for a freakin 600rr, there goin for 7500-8000 around me, i see them for between 8 and 8500 out the door all the time, and thats pretty much for all 600 sport bikes
i personally like yamaha's. i like the new r6 s. not the new style r6 but the s its the same body style as 05 but diffrent gearing, and suspension and a few little tweeks, im just a yamaha guy, if i didnt buy a r6 s i whould buy a new gixxer 600 then a kawa 636 and then the last bike i whould buy is a honda, there not bad bikes, there just not great they dont really excell at anything there just kinda good, and the seats are very uncomfortable on them, and i think there really ugly
but thats just my opinion

Absolutely true. But, I wouldn't want to be left with the short end of the stick if my bike was stolen. You'd be making payments on something you wouldn't own anymore. That's an avoidable life-lesson.

i would suggest an cbrF3. It can be had for cheap and its not overy powerful to scare you and you can stil have plenty of fun. I see the all the time for 2500-3000 for one in really good condition and some decent ones for as little as 2000. Dont limit yourrself since you are looking for a starter bike not the last bike you will ever have, you can always upgrade at a later date.

why do you want to finance? financing a bike usually means ful coverage insurance which is big$. i would look into that before you are absolutely convinced you want to finance a bike.

Well. I've gotten quotes already and they are actually not too incredibly exspensive. I want to finance as a way to build my credit by making payments, and also I don't have a few thousand laying around.

have you got your gear yet? i have dropped a "couple" of thousand just on gear. Then the Msf if about 200 bucks little by little that 5,000 bike cost like 7,000 just to ride. Just something to keep in mind.

I do realise that it will cost me some money aside from the financing. I know this. I'm not going to go buy this tommorrow. I'm not going to daily drive it. Going to take it ..not slow, but I'm not just going to go out and jump on the first bike I see , and go riding around without proper gear.
