Compressor ROAR

A/C Compressor ROAR
Me eg has a very load roar,kind of like a skateoard moving (sound) when I start the engine, but the sound gets lower or goes away after driving for a few minutes. It is deinitley a scary noise, and i am pretty sure it is coming from the compressor b/c when i turn on the A/C then sound changes to a low chatter. I will try to take the compressot belt off over the weekend but before I do that, does anyone know what this problem may be? Please HELP

Well I took off the belt today, The sound did go away so I guess I need another A/C compressor. Does anyone know where I can get one for cheap? The junkyard prices range from $250-about $450. They only have a 30 day warranty so I really don't want to pay that much for a car that has over 150K.
