Default F Production 91 CRX

I was Searching for information on SCCA F Production CRX set ups. I totalled my 91 CRX si ITA car this past weekend at Sebring. I have a 2nd shell & want to start a ground up build the right way. I have done a archive search but didn't seem to find what I was looking for. Any help would be appreciated regarding gearing, engine, suspension.

What do you want to know? I'm pretty much an open book and there isn't much that i don't share...much to my detriment.

Go to http://www.coloradoscca.org/prodcar/index.php and do a search for CRX and you will find a wealth of info. Don't let the grumblers who are on every forum get you down, there is a lot of really good info there and about half a dozen FP CRX folks.

I have been on their site(Colorado region). I have been thinking about this for a year and with the recent destruction of my ITA car, I'm ready. I want to know if competetive cars are using stock gear box, stock box with diffeent internals or a full race box. I have a 4.7 final drive & quaiffe diff so I am pushing for the stock box or with different internals. I currently have a ground control setup on the old car. I would like to upgrade with the rules of production, but at the same time still stay on a budget. What spring rates & shocks should I be looking for. Computer ecu development, is their a starting point programing you would recomend over the basic pr3 ecu that I can develop with the car. Lastlly for now, the engine. Would you recomend developing the compression with the domed forged acura piston or machineing block/head. What springs/valves/cam package will yield good power, reliability, endurance, cost effectivness. Who should do porting work on head besides my local guy. I know I have alot listed but I am starting to map out the car on paper before I start. Thank you for your help in advance.

You covered a lot of territory there. At this point, the car hasn't been around and competitive to have had much serious parts development. Many of the cars were ITA converts, mine is one of the few scratch built cars. With the compression increase this year, I just got my custom Arias pistons in the mail this week. I was never able to get anyone who could tell me exactly what the Acura pistons did for compression numbers so I went the custom route. I haven't done the cam work yet, I just researched a few grinders and found one guy who looks like he can get ,me in the right basic ballpark for an entry level price and then I can try learning about cam development later. First you get it running in the ballpark, they you develop. I have a 4.7 with an OPM LSD on 15 inch wheels and I am changing this season to a mix and match gear set of Honda parts with 13 inch wheels that should according to a gearing program I played with a lot get me a better situation at a ffraction of the money I have in it now. My 4.7 and LSD will sell soon to an IT or H4 guy who can't play with gearing and tire diameters. My car is on 600f/800r at the moment on some Koni 2812s that I need to redo the lengths on. I tried to get too tricky when I built the shocks and now they are too short and the car sits too high. I'll run some Koni 8041 RACE in a lapping day in about 3 weeks then until I can get the 2812s the way I want them. I have a Zdyne Gold programmable ECU right now but have not played with it. I ran my car three weekends last year for the first time on a old reliable street engine so I could put emphasis on other parts of the car (brakes, suspension, keeping things from falling off, etc) and not have to worry about a race engine at the same time. Plus the winds of change were blowing most of the year for the cam and compression that we got during the off-season so there was no use oin puing a lot of effort in a 10:1 engine when 12:1 was coming soon. Real poting is not allowed in Limmted Prep Fp so you can basically just use an IT level head. John Schmitt of HART does my heads and I build my own engines. It should be a very reliable and pretty competitive car for a reasonable budget. If it still a pretty fresh topic so a number of people are trying different things but I don't think there is a lot of cast-in-stone development done as yet.
