Might have blown his motor. It's kinda easy to downshift into 2nd instead of 4th. Be careful!!

In technical terms, his engine is totally fucked.

Acura might fix it, but I wouldn't count on it. Even if they do, it'll be a one-time thing, and may possibly even affect future warranty coverage. If Acura won't fix it, another way to handle it would be through his insurance. It's a brand-new car, and if it's financed he legally has to have full-coverage insurance.

Perhaps acura will take toyota's approach: Move rev limiter below the redline. Toyota got so many blown up engines because of people misshifting. They moved the rev limiter below redline on '02 models. Because of that, it is impossible to keep the car in lift on the next upshift and has a shitty *** 0-60 time.

thats happening a lot with the rsx , in order that a sales man told me that there advicing people about that cause there are several cases . and some people have taken their cars to the dealer to get repair and some have got bill up to $10,000. the only thing he knows is that they have cover some of it, but not in full.

Sorry to hear the car's dead.
Why is he pissed off, unless at himself? The car didn't downshift into 2nd by itself.
Depending on the dealer, he may be able to get one "grace" engine, if he asks for the replacement.
I'll admit the gates on the RSX shifter are close together, but if you downshift straight down from neutral, you'll get 4th.

it doesn't matter where they move the rev limiter. the rev limiter isn't going to save you in a 5-2 downshift like that.
