Default opinions on some leathers I'm thinking of getting...

ok... Here's the story. Currently I'm only rocking a mesh jacket. Well I just got some sidi B2 race boots and am feeling the need to get full leathers. What's kept me from getting them already is the fact that I'm what some people call big boned however the weight is coming off now... So basically I didn't want to spend lots of money for leathers when 2-3 months over the winter they wouldn't be used, and 2-3 months after that they'd be way too big.... But... Because I'm going home this weekend to pickup my bike and have a Deals Gap meet at the end of march... I'm really feeling the need to get full leathers. SOO.... I've found that I'm able to piece together a respectable setup for relatively cheap that should protect me for now and not hurt my wallet too bad... I know it's not the best setup but when I'm down to the desired weight I want to be at I'll get a full suit and sell these off and upgrade my two piece setup...

Joe Rocket Blaster 2.0 jacket - $169
http://www.newenough.com/joe_r...e.htm

with matching Blaster 2.0 solid pants - $? but should be < $250
http://www.newenough.com/joe_r...e.htm

Sliders for the pants - $36
http://www.newenough.com/armor...e.htm

basically my tax return money will be buy me this for ~$450 and should keep me protected better then my mesh jacket and jeans....

yeah I saw that. Only thing is I kind've wanted the sliders...

hmm.... I guess I could do without cause that does save me a good chunk of money... actually in fact I think I'm gonna do that... There's no way I'm getting my knee down yet on the street... and the savings are real nice

Blaster 2.0 is a great jacket. If you can find one, get an older Speedmaster off eBay for CHEEEP.

The Blaster pants are nice, but they don't have knee sliders, or velcro for the pucks. You'd have to get it stitched/sewn on. Definitely get the perf'd pants, though. You can always layer up, but not layer down.

the pics of the blaster 2.0 pants I see show velcro for sliders...

and all the speedmaster jackets I'm seeing on ebay are like $400

and technically couldn't I get someone to stitch some velcro onto the shift pants if I really needed sliders??

im really leaning toward the shift suit since by the time I'd actually need sliders (at the track cause I'll drag my knee at the track long before I would on the street) I'll be down to a lower size and will get a full suit. Any idea how long they take to ship? since I need this by a certain date....

Ahh, apologies. My Blaster pants (1.0) didn't come with velcro patches.

It cost $75 to get velcro patches sewn onto my pants. Not bad, but I would have been better off buying pants that already had sliders.

Just do some searching on the jacket. I bought my Speedmaster jacket for $240 from best-leathers.com. The quality is good. I've had mine for two years and haven't had any issues with it.

well I think for now I'm gonna go shift leather street suit. And if I really have to at some point get some velcro put on. I don't think that'll be necessary though

I ordered late on a Thursday I believe and recieved my suit the following monday....so 10 days? I got hit by two weekends though, so you might be able to get it in a week if you order on a Monday or Tuesday.

I think you'll be very happy with the suit. For that price you can't go wrong. THen in 6 months - 1 year get some velcro sewn on and purchase some pucks for $35 and you have an awesome suit for under $450.

wait thursday to the next monday or the 2nd monday after you ordered? Meet is the weekend of March 26th so I guess I need to order middle of march?

oh and how was the fit? I did some quick measurements and they seem to differ from what I would've expected... I'd be looking at a 60 (XL)

60? That's Euro sizing, right? So 50?

I'm 5'11" - 6' and weigh 177 pounds. The suit was snug to say the least in the belly, chest, thighs and arms. If I lost a couple pounds of fat, it would fit nicely....but nothing would really fit under it (long johns, etc.) The problem I had was the height of the suit. When I zip the two halfs together the distance from the crotch to the shoulders was JUST barely long enough....this did not make for a comfortable fit. If this suit was to be worn only on the track in a warm climate...I might have kept it.

The problem is that my mid section may be shorter or longer than the next persons. The legs and arms were plenty long (longer than I expected even) but the mid section just wasn't happening.

As stated in my post, it took approx. 10 days for delivery, but the first weekend caused a delay in order processing, and then the suit sat at UPS from the next friday at midnight till Monday morning at a store down the road.

Let me know if you have anymore questions.

I'm 6'0 and 235, and a 48 is a bit snug. It's tight across the chest so that I can barely squeeze in my back protector.

HTH.

Probably not.
