what is the process to remove the starter from a 96 3.5 rl????????
I was wondering if there were any shortcuts/tricks to remove the starter from a 96 3.5 rl. It seems to be impossible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's no such thing as a 96 3.5 RL? So I when I go to work at Acura tomorrow, I should throw out the all the manuals/ETMs we have for a 96 3.5 RL? Hmmm yah ok.
To the original poster, r2d, I'll have to check at work tomorrow and see what I can pull up (if I remember to...when we get busy, I tend to forget stuff
) Those are the old school engines mounted front to rear, and we don't see them as often. So I don't work on them too much. I'll check for you though, it shouldn't be that difficult
Check around on google, I'm sure there's something you'll find. If not, check around for info on the old 3.2 TLs that were mounted in the same fashion. I would think the process would be similar, and that car was more common, so you might have better luck.

Ok well it'll def be a project. It's two pages in the book, and I don't have time to type them, but basically you're looking at removing the battery and tray, alternator, left exhaust mani cover, left damper fork, left lower ball joint, left axle, A pipe, left engine mount bracket, then the starter...
That's the cliff notes version. If you want a copy of the two pages from the manual, give me a fax # and ATTN and I'll fax it to you. Good luck!

You don't need to do anything on top, basically go through the steps of removing the left axle and you're home free. The only trick is getting the upper mounting bolt since it goes thru the back of the block. You'll need a long extension with a swivel 14mm socket. The job pays 4hrs but can easily be done in under 1hr w/ the correct tools.

For the record, I wasn't saying that's exactly what needed to be done. He didn't seem to have any ideas towards how to remove the starter. So I simply told him what the book said, then he'd get an idea. Once he knows how it's "supposed" to be done, he can look at it and decide exactly what needs done. Similar to "having to remove the axle" to put a new alternator in an Integra...doesn't actually need to be done.
I was simply trying to give him an idea of what the process was, and how he wanted to go about it...didn't think I'de get flamed for trying to help.
And hey, at least I'm not dumb like those who don't think a 96 3.5RL even exists..that was the first thing I def corrected in my post
