worth a try or not?
Alright, so I have a fiberglass repair kit that im going to use in order to repair the lip, but the lip is gonna need paint (thats not a variable). At the same time the bumper is really fugly - chipped paint and scratches (As you can see in the pic).
So my question is do I...
a) Get some duplicolor spray cans (primer, color and clear), paint the lip, yet at the same time attempt to "touch-up" the bumper?
b) Get a paint gun. You have a compressor, so just get the gun, sand that bumper and fix that lip, do em both and youll be the ****! (hehe it rhymes)
c) Get the spray cans, paint the lip - but leave the bumper, maybe just take some nice wax to it (but Ive tried that). Get a different wax then, damnit!!
**Keep in mind that I have no first hand experience with a paint gun, but have been reading up on techniques / how to**

the ONLY thing about this option is, wont it be hard to match the new paint of the bumper/lip to the rest of the main body? (eg. fenders, etc)

Alot of people have their front bumpers repainted. As long as he gets the right color it will be fine. When i was rear ended, i had my rear bumper replaced and it the color was matched perfectly.

Even if you get a new lip, itll still need paint. so that doesnt help me at all. Its not a question of whether to fix/get a new lip - I already have the repair kit, its just a question of whether to paint the lip (whether new or this one fixed) with spray cans, or to get a paint gun and re-do the bumper while im at it..

Not exactly. Skill is needed when painting a car or parts. You have to sand and prep the car correctly. And spraying with a gun is trickier than it seems. Definately not good to try it unless you have experience or practice. But it doesnt hurt to have the right color code.

So if this was your situation, with no paint gun experience, BUT could follow the many DIY on here, what would you do?

So are you saying itd be hard to physically get the right color paint or that itd be hard to get the right amount of layers/coats of paint to correctly match it? BTW, this weekend is my "fix the front end" so the fog light hole thing was on my to do list..

The lip is fakey so you can buy a new one for less than the materials to "fix" it probably. Christ it looks like you used a butter knife to cut the vents out of the front bumper. Judging by that I would say to nix the attempt at repairing the lip.

Honestly, i would just fix the lip and be done with it. However, you could practice on something else until you felt that it was good enough to work on the bumper. You will never gain experience unless you practice.

Its not that I "suck" at DIY, I had to cut away at parts on the back of the bumper in order to get the bumper on with the charge piping, so it was a quick job just so that I could drive my car - thats why this weekend im going back to re-do it all..should try reading the whole thread next time (I already stated this).

Thanks for the help. Ima actually just buy a paint gun, try it out on something else, then go for it. The only way you truely learn is by doing.

I'm not trying to insult you and I did read the whole thread.
The point is that it's obvious you don't take time to do things "the right way". In the face of such obvious proof why would anyone think anything else when you're going to try and "DIY" fiberglass repair and paint. A task that's alot harder than simply cutting up a bumper. Something that you failed horribly at.

You really mustnt be able to read. I said I had to cutaway at parts on the holes in order to get my bumper on. I need the bumper to drive my car, so since I didnt have time to cut everything completely, I cut what was intereferring and was planning to come back this weekend (because id have time) and fix it up.
