Did a semi-build and I'm having oil pressure issues and high idle(turned the idle down all the way and still @ 1000rpm.) Oil light was coming on at first start up b/c the oil pickup tube was clogged. Cleared the gunk and after 30 sec's test driving the light comes on again. I'm in the middle of getting a oil gauge to it. Kinda expect that i will ultimately replace the pump? i dunno.
I understand that the arrow on the pump should line up with the mark on the sprocket, but NOWHERE can i find out about how or why the center inside ring of the pump has one side flat and the other side 2 teeth? does this matter installation-wise?

 

This board maybe lacking sufficient expertise. Responses that maybe the intake manifold has a vacuum leak? I doubt that has anything to do with OIL PRESSURE. who am i to know 100% ? all i hope that theres somebody here that knows what theyre talking about.

I replaced the pump, cleaned the pickup tube(clogged) and still the oil light would flash then stay on but only after driving it this time. I understand that if the oil light flashes, it means psi is under 10 and constant means nothing at all. Installed an oil gauge finally and see that pressure is all over the place! at 8500-9rpm oil was at 55psi fluctuating to 65 then back down to 1 or 2. Anyone had this problem?
