Fuel Pump Question
Hey, I'm new to the forum but have been working on my CRX for awhile now. I have a question about the fuel pump. When ever the gas tank starts to get low (around 3-4 gallons left in tank) and I take a turn, my car will stall as if it's not getting enough fuel. It only does this when the gas is low which is why I've narrowed it down to the fuel pump. I don't know if the pump is starting to go bad or if the filter/screen on the pump is clogged. I know it's not the fuel filter under the hood as it's new. I also know there is no sediment (rust, etc.) in the tank. Also, it starts to cut off/jerk under heavy acceleration when gas is low. If anybody has had this problem before please let me know or any suggestions. I know a new fuel pump is right around $250, so I want to try other options first. Thanks a lot.
I had the same problem and didn't figure out what it was until the pump went bad. Once I pulled the pump, I noticed that the pick up wasn't in the same position and angle as the CRX replacement pump. It was higher and almost sideways in the tank which caused severe starvation on right turns and left me stranded on a freeway interchange with the level slightly above E. Anyway, I installed a Walbro 190 for ($79 shipped) and it's been running great with no problems.
The previous owner mentioned he had installed a high volume fuel pump so I figured what had happened was he installed one designed for a different model car and didn't think about the height and angle of the pick up.

If you talk to the Road race guys with EFs you will see this is a common occurance. I know a lot of them have had issues with this late in races. I myself have not had this issue. Its just a poor design I guess.

I would agree it seems to be a hit or miss with that. I've autoXed with an 1/8th tank and been O.K.
