Default Resonator choices?

I have a 1990 honda crx si 1.6 with intake and exaust tip. I had the cat cut out of it because i figured it was loosing power due to a clogged cat. It sounds like **** and is annoying. What can i do to fix this?? Is a resonator the same thing as a cat? What would be a good resonator to get. My stock cat is long gone .
Searched exaust's and it didn't help. Any opinions appreciated

You could just buy a new stock catalytic from autozone for like 90 bucks lol, and it might sound better, but you could also go with a magna flow high flow catalytic for cheaper....Put a cherry bomb on it lol......

70 bucks to get it off? CRAP!! I took mine off in my garage, lol. Ofcourse since then it's been replaced. SAVE THE OZONE! lol. You dont know what a Cherry Bomb is? Well..see, it's like a fire work....that's one cherry bomb. As for cars...it's a glasspack, have you heard of those? Autozone sells them, just ask them for a Cherry Bomb or a Glass Pack, they sometimes have them on a stand so you can pick up and stare...or behind the counter, and they bring it to you, they're like 25 bucks, really cheap, loud, and farty lol. Not too farty, there's fartier more expensive **** out there, basically it's a resonator.

A cherrybomb is a glassback basically..It will help deepen the tone a bit..But Glasspacks are known to melt after a while..

You can go to jegs.com ..They have a big selection and you can get something like this and have it welded in the piping or whatever..

I dont want the farty sound i just want a deep steady tone. I have glass packs on my 1994 mitsubishi 3000gt. I kinda didn't like the way it sounded. I do want to get rid of the excess noise so i'll try it. Maybe i'll get 2.25 piping later

Yeah, that's what Cherry Bombs look like, except they're painted red, supposedly they're pretty low quality, and with time the noise will not be heard as much, (if you want it noisy) I didnt know if it's 'cuz they melt, is that why the noise lessens?

Im confused.... I want the noise lessened does a resentor do that or not. If it makes it worse i swear i'll get ticketed. Right now i have to put it in neutrel and coast by cops. Where does the resonater need to be mounted? where the cat used to be?

I guess it could go there...never thought of putting a glass pack there...or maybe I'm the one doing that **** wrong? lol..nah..that couldnt be it. No man, that glasspack goes in place of a muffler, or so I did so in an old car, and also I've seen other cars do it that way. Seriously, if you want less noise, put a catalytic on there, they help plenty. A resonator will lessen the noise compared to a no muffler car, but opposed to a stock muffler I think it's noisier. I'm no pro, I suppose u can await feedback from other guys here.

It doesn't have a stock muffler though it has an aftermarket 4 inch tip. Thanks for the imput even if i havn't goten anywhere closer to understanding this. When you let off the gas it's just like baaaaaa and it starts to crackle. It's the most annoying sound ever.

You put the glasspack(s) or resonator(s) before the muffler..Like on my old exhaust I had 2 of those bullet mufflers and a Dynomax superturbo muffler..I was real deep and bassy..Almost sounded like the new 1.8t audis,Imprezas,Evo's,etc..

1 of these dynamax super converters

2 of these race bullets

1 of these dynomax turbo mufflers

Well, my old car had a catalytic in it, and the stock muffler was replaced by the Cherry Bomb, now when I downshifted with it it wouldnt crackle, but at a certain rpm it would POP, I didnt really mind that one, but as the rpms got lower it would start to pop/crackle. It wasnt too loud, I had a cherry bomb on a v8 camaro also, with no catalytic, and you could hear the car idle across the whole block, it was real LOUD. It also Rumbled, but for a V8 the rumbling was beautiful, I dont know what you'll get out of the crx, never tried one on that.

What is the best choice to fix my problem? cat or resonator. I feel really stupid i paid 75$ to have the cat cutt of and im stuck with this horrible sounding car. I want to get an exaust with a silencer i hope it helps. I wish i would have just knocked out the honeycomb stuff in the cat and put it back in

Ive always thought that glasspacks make V8's sound like ****..Especially chevys..You can get away with it on a mopar..But on a chevy it makes them sound so light..

But I would put the cat back in..Maybe get a high flow converter or whatever..

I'd get that dynamax thing he's talking about, and maybe replace the tip with something more conservative as well, you can ask him, he seems to have more experience with all this.

Maybe its just me then..I never liked the way smallblock chevys sounded..I remember back in the day when these guys with the 327 impalas welded thrush glasspacks right onto the header and ran it like that and I always though it sounded crappy..Chevys sound so much better with a full exhaust and mufflers especialy if they have a high lift cam.I could Sit there and listen to them things tick all day. But they still dont have nothing on a mopar 383,440 or 426 hemi..No way

Not really,, everything is straight-through and the cat is high flow..

Yes it deepens the exhaust noise..It doesnt make it queiter though..Just think aout how some subwoofer sound loud and high pitched and some sound loud and deep,,its the same thing here..

I'm kinda wondering the samething. I just gutted my cat and now I have a lot of rasp throughout the entire rev range. Before it was just a nice deep whOOOOOOOmp and the intake was louder than anything. Now I can barely hear the intake and the exhaust sounds like bzzzzzzzzzzzzzt bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt. Pisses me off. I'm contemplating the hi flow cat but if I could get away with a resonator I would rather do that because they are easier to weld in.
