amp keeps going into protect mode.
i have a sony head unit, and two 12' kicker subs wired up to a mobile authority amp rated at 600watts mofets.
the dam amp keeps going into protection mode. on someday it will be fine and sound great and on other days the bass will be weak and as soon as i turn it louder it goes into protection mode. the amp doesn't even get hot, and no fuses blow. right now i have the subs bridged, and the only way i can get it to work is if i turn the bass all the way down.
someone please help me out. this is the 2nd time this happened. what can it possibly be? is it just a weak *** amp?
the 1st time i had a mtx thunder rated at 350 watts but that wasent enough either. it would get hot and turn off.

hmmm could try unplugging the speaker.. and turning gain up on amp.. and turning the hu up and see if it goes into protection mode.. im guessing a loose wire is crossing. and of course the ground cable could be loose in some cases. so mite also want to check that.

First lets get some info on your speakers and amp. What kind of subs are they? Dvc or svc, What are the ohm of the speaker. Also what is the power rating of your amp. Is it 2 ohm stable bridge, 1 or 4. You might be running your amp below its power rating, Too low of a restiance being bridge will cause your amp to go into protect mode.

simple fix. You must be running your amp below limits of it. If you are running your subs parrelell. Your amp is receiving a 2 ohm mono load which it is not capiable of doing. The only way you can get away with it is to run it stereo or wire it in series to a 8 ohm load and bridge it. This will keep the amp from going into protective mode, Save your money and get a mono amp to push your subs. get one in your power rating at a 2 ohm load.
wow. cool any recomendations? on a mono
one more question my friend says that its better to get a 2 channel amp because he said the subs will get equal power and with mono the two subs might not get equal power.

Wow. Your friend needs to put down the pipe...
A 2 channel amp has a better chance of not delivering equal power since it's got two output circuits... A mono amp has one output, and therefore will deliver its output regardless of the speakers connected.

not allways, If the amp runs cool you would get some decient power depending on the brand. When the amp heats up your rms power is going to turn to heat which means less power to your subs. You could get away with a 2 channel but finding one that runs at 2 ohm most of the time is $$$. Get a mono block class d amp to push your subs will be more efficient. Because the are design to run cool-most of the time-and put out there power more effciently then a class a/b amp.

yea at first i thought it was the ground, so i added a 2nd wire turns out it didn't help for beans.

Don't bother your dad, the best way is DIY! Grab a meter, turn it to ohms, power it up and hold the terminals one to each speaker wire, it will tell you the resistance of your speakers (i.e., 2/8 ohms). I bet you'll show 2ohms. Cause I'm pretty sure Mobile Authority can't handle a 2ohm bridged load.
Your amp sucks for your application, but could prove useful with a pair of dvc 4ohmers bridged. Get any D class amp or different speakers. Amp is cheaper in your situation!

^^^^^ true. Thats what I told him from the start. Also 4 ohm speakers are not true 4 ohm. lol, If you test with a meter it will read from 3.75 to 4. Don't want him to get a funny reading and not know. good luck.
so i think i might has fixed it temporarly. i was so frustraded that i unpluged one of the woofers to see if it helped any, turns out it just sounds shitty. so i plugged it back in, low and behold the bass is bumping strong and the amp still hasent turned off. im able to turn the volume up and the amp is fine, bass is strong, and nothings overheating.
so it truely is my amp huh?
