Default K & N airfilter.... Is it worth $50?

I was looking to get a K & N air filter for my CRX 1.5 liter. I live 2 miles back a dirt road so I dont think a cold air intake is a good idea.

Is the K&N worth $50?

Is there anyplace to get one cheaper?

Your talking about a K&N that fits in the stock air box? For your application it is probably not worth it. Personal preference is bliss though.

if your looking for extra protection because you live on a dirt road than its worth it but performance wise it wont make a difference in your application

Actually a K&N filter is going to be worse off protection wise. They are high flow filters, so you are more likely to get unwanted debris in your engine than with just the stock filter(especially if you live on a dirt road). Also as others have noted you wont see a noticeable gain in performance, just a more profound intake noise.

a k&n filter does not provide better protection for your motor but it provides the same amount of protection as a paper filter for a longer time and they are cleanable and re-usable... hence why its better for your car if you live on a dirt road paper filter will clog up alot faster and when tehy clog up they no longer protect your engine

if they did not filter as good as a factory filter than manufacturers would not warranty them

Technically, the K&N filter will pay for it self after a year or 2, because instead of changing filters every other oil change, you can just clean the K&N.

It isnt that they filter bad, it is just that they dont filter as well. Check this article out, it is pretty interesting.

The funny thing is any filter that flows more will filter less come on guys it's just common sense. However alot of guys run a K&N and have no abnormal effects from it. I have 340,000km on my car and it still runs great!

but that test was only 500 miles, according to k&n when the filter starts to become dirty it actually helps the filtration, that filter was just broken in I would like to see the next 1000 miles.
