Type R arrives tomorrow--ahhh, anti-theft devices!
Alright, well.. I need the real deal.
What is recommended as far as a security system/hood locks/pager, etc...
Just point me in the general direction as far as what to get (what works and what doesn't work), I know it's a lot to ask, but I'd rather ask it first then make a stupid mistake that costs me an R later on, thanks!

Heh, thanks for the input... I know that's what I need but I wanna know what brands/models are good...
and for those who are going to tell me to do a search, the search is all busted right now, thanks.

Save your money. All you are going to do is increase the amount of money you will lose if your car is stolen.

One of my personal favorites is a self contained alarm siren (with battery) under the dash of the car and strobe lights. At least if the fuggin thief get's the car, he'll be deaf and blind!!

I have...
Tracker (lo-Jack), alarm/imobilser and carry a wheel clamp in the trunk that goes on wherever it stops. HAve a look at the detatchable steering wheels also and at Toad Security's window film which will stop them from breaking the side windows.

This is a subject I've really been thinking over. If they really want our car, a professional that is, there really is nothing we can do to stop them from getting it. We can only hope to deter them enough to change their minds. In that case, everything that has been posted would be a good way of protecting yourself, but they can still walk away with our cars, and there goes all that money on secrity down the drain.
I have apager alarm and a club, but thieves will get what they really want

all you need is your stock door locks and a 9mm on your belt
i have viper 800 alarm with pager (i love the pager, never leave with out it)
also have on the alarm --
back up battery, starter kill and alot of other bs that does nothing but give amusement, but will add to the "pain in the ***" of the theif gettin the car which is what i want. I'd also get the autolock on your clutch.
I also have 2 sirens on my alarm, and get sensors on every opening of the car so no matter where they enter the alarm goes off.
Also recommend putting a siren inside the dash so they go deaf tryin to take the car.
**edit** also if you park your car outside (which i don't recommend), i would get a car cover with the lock. I put the car cover on my car every night (so just incase some dumb *** is "shoppin" for cars to jack, they don't actually see your car and claim it as a target in the first place). and if they do, the lock on the car cover won't do much, but it will definently add a "pain in the ***" to the jacker which is 1 more lil thing it'll strike in their mind saying "screw this car, go to the next one")
O ya and i recommend steel toe boots and boxing gloves. there might be a conflict with the 9mm with the boxing gloves on, but no problem

When trying to protect your car, don't even attempt to protect it from the pros. It don't matter what you do, they're going to get it. What you should be worrying about are all the amateurs that are out there.
Going overboard on an alarm with all the bells and whistles is useless. It won't stop the pros and a good basic alarm with some added precaution will stop the amateurs.
I install alarms and let me tell you, prox and tilt don't do jack. I would personally only use a prox in a convertible, because if a thief is going to break into your ****, they're usually already prepared to disable the siren/alarm. The extra edge that a prox gives you in a non-convertible is neglegable. For the tilt, just get an impact sensor. If theyre' going to jack you car up and get your wheel locks off, the impact will set it off.
The opinion of what you should get from this installer alarm wise:
DEI or Clifford Alarm (owned by same company)
starter kill
ignition kill
impact sensor
2 sirens
2 back-up sirens (the ones with built in batteries)
2 air horns
2 regular sirens, 2 back-up sirens, and 2 air horns are for as follows: 1 set in engine bay and 1 set under the dash or in the cabin somewhere. Just make sure the alarm is installed very, very well. If this alarm falses while you are driving with all of the noise that will be generated by the sirens and airhorns inside the cabin, you will probably crash.
We're probably talking about in excess of at least 130-140 db's at very high frequencies that will make your ears bleed!!!
The only sensor that you need is the impact, as it picks up almost everything else that all the other sensors would pick up.
