its illegal to cover your vin number on the dash. If a cop or traffic person sees that they will tow the car immeditally and you will get a fine. What I do is I put my old parking pass thing that you hang on your rear view mirror over it. I position it to a way where it looks like it just fell over their from throwing it on the dash when its no being used. This way is a cop or traffic person sees it they will just assume that the parking pass fell over it on accident.
This from a guy who's mods are listed in his sig.
MR Skelly You think only type r members post here at Honda-tech. Some guy will post a ITR sighting thread then members will say thats he/she uses this name here and he checks it up and sees your sigs.
Rboosted,I dont park my car anywhere a cop will walk over and give me a ticket. plus the thing can be removed just like that if u want. Its not stuck on there like some do with electrical tape.

Covering up your VIN number with a Mugen paper is nothing worse than having a Mugen Exhaust in plain view. Will thieves rather look into the VIN number with a stock exhaust or Mugen exhaust? Either way, ITRs are popular for getting stolen.
u know what sucks, with NY, the registration is stuck on the windshield, and our VIN is right on there...so even if u cover the oem vin number, u cant really hide the vin on the registration
about a month ago i was visiting a few of my friends in NJ/NY.
The new NJ registration tags have the vin on it, so does the NY ones.
I was really surprised!...I think the NY has had it for a long time now, while the NJ VIN on registration tag is quite new, as many of them were griping how they fear for their ITRs.

damn, I didn't know it's illegal to cover the VIN #, I just stuck a business card over mine, but no one has bitched about it yet, but I also haven't been pulled over yet. (knock on wood)
My vin on my dash is covered with a business card and every vin sticker on the car, doors, hatch, fenders.......is covered with black vinly as well as the one on the front of the engine. Any time the car is at the track the lic. is off also. So many people look over the cars at track events, its just a little more piece of mind. As far as the Police, I just explained to officer friendly why it was covered and he was cool with it.

I thought I was so cool when I covered my VIN number with a business card.... until I noticed the number was printed on my window inspection sticker. D'oh!!! I noticed when I got a new one that was printed much clear than the one I had on before.
I don't care anymore because at least I know you don't needed a key to get into a car or start it either......

Anyway, what's the point of covering your VIN on your car? That won't prevent thieves from stealing it. Besides, they can see your tag and you cannot cover it. Or worse, they just need to follow you up and do their plan.
