Strange Timing and Valve Lash problem
hey, in the past week i have set my ignition timing and adjusted my valve lash, everything seemed to go smooth with no issues but now my car seems a little strange to me, dunno if it is running correctly or not. BTW its a 91 hf with a '95 D15b7 and '88 pm6 ecu. I checked my cam timing with the crank before i set the ignition timing, all was well, set dizzy to base timing specs on the crank pulley. next day i adjusted my valves, they were a bit noisy and as i expected loose when i check them, adjusted them a bit tighter then spec .006"-.007 on intake .007-.008" on exhaust. now my car seems to have like a muffled pop sound in the exhaust at idle, kinda like a muffled backfire every couple seconds coming out the tail pipe, pretty subtle but its there. Also my idle has changed, or so the tach says anyway, from about 750 up to about 950-1000 when warmed up but my ignition timing is still set at base timing like it was when i did it the other day. should'nt my igntion timing be slightly retarded at 1000 compared to it at 750 rpm's? btw i also forgot to jump the jumper in the cabin when i did the timing if that has any effect. Does this sound strange or is it ok? thanx
ok, today after warming up it idled back at 750 like normal and timing was dead on still, so i guess maybe my tach is starting to go whacky, but still have questions about this backfiring sound, sounds kinda like a misfire coming out the exhaust but the engine runs straight as an arrow when you go listen to it or look at the tach, exhaust not just sounds funky, anyone?
