Default EGT temp...really high??

just put an autometer EGT gauge on my d16z6....motor is basically stock except for a zex 59300 cam....the egt gauge gets up to 1200 'F isn't this a little high? I know it is pointless to have on a stock motor but it will be turboed....just waiting to break the motor in N/A

when turboed it will et to 1400 on a full throttle run. I think the melting point of cast aluminum is like 800 degrees, but with the engine coolant and oil it tends to keep its shape. You better beleive its soft as butter though. a good reason to change your air filters or actually put one on.
