AutoX CRX in CSP - Need some D16A6 and suspension advice
First of all hi to everyone, great site, tons of useful info around... I spent a couple of days reading about the 1.6l engines and suspension setups and damn will it ever end!
Anyway, the reason for all this is that I have decided to build a CSP CRX as my next Solo 2 car and I'm trying to deepen my knowledge before I start spending cash and building it. I autocrossed several FWD cars in last couple of years, did very well but always wanted to build widely competitive CSP car... and a CRX at that
The main catch in CSP is that you cannot use parts from the models from different generation so I'm stuck with the D16A6 as the best engine from 89-91.
What I would appreciate is advice from more experienced CSP people on the build of these CRXs/Civics, with focus on engine and suspension upgrades. I am more or less set on GC/Koni combo, what I need are the spring rates you suggest and sway bar setups you know work well. I will be using this car as a summer daily driver as well so outrageous 500+ spring rates are out of question for now at least.
I am looking at the D16A6 now... From what I see Si tranny with 4.25 gears and Quaife are certain. What about the engine upgrades? AutoX needs some low and mid power so crazy cam profiles are also out of question... can`t seem to find any recommendations for the cam to fit my application... what would you do? I will eventually bump up the compression some, but have to be able to use 91 octane local fuel. Keep in mind that I will not have enough to invest in management/retard units yet, maybe only cam gear.
In summary I need a good suspension setup that will be driveable on the street and a mildly modded engine that will live on 91 octane and NOT use parts from the post-91 models (I know, D16A1 pistons would be great). Lets hear your opinions!
Any help will be appreciated

for spring rates you are going to want 400f/500-600r (600 being my choice) if you want to be competitive. it really isn't bad on the street- i've been driving those for quite a while.
most important thing in csp is tires. 13x8's with 225/45/13 hoosiers.
big rear sway. st works.
stock or hf front sway.
refresh bushings.
good brake pads and fluid.
ditch the removable (legal) parts of the interior that you don't need.
i/h/e is all i'd recommend before the rest is done. then get into the limited motor mods that are allowed.

great, thanks... I already have some reserved 13x8s locally, I will run Kumhos or Hoosiers in that or 235 size.
what size exhaust would you recommend though - I'm thinking 2.25...

for alignment-
camber will be good from lowering it.
i usually run 0 toe rear, and a little toe out (1/16- 1/8) in the front.
the only things i change between runs (unless it's raining) are tire pressures. have a look in the rr/ax forum for recommended pressures for whatever tire you choose, and how it responds to more/less air.

I would suggest investing in a rulebook first, or at least downloading the free version from the SCCA web site. CSP does not allow any internal modifications to the engine other than .040" overbore pistons and balancing. You cannot change the cam or specs of the pistons. Cam gears have just become legal for this season.

I run in Canada, our Street Prepared is your Prepared. So I guess I would be in CP in SCCA.
Our classes go Stock, Super Stock, Street Prepared... your go Stock, SP, P
So in CSP in Canada you have a ton of options to do. I could slap a turbo on a fully built engine and go for it but our courses tend to be tighter than you guys run and moderate HP is often better than excesss. There was a guy here with the 200 whp crazy light B18 CRX here a couple of years ago and it was more than a handful to drive... I'll start mild and see what turns up. My main aim are the regional mildly prepped Miatas running mild engine mods and full suspensions with hoosiers.
