Default Trying to find g/f a bike

Now my g/f is looking for her first bike and I am very supportive of it,but I want her alive. She wants a 600 which is a big bike for anyone. She has never ridden a bike before and I have been trying to show her 250's like the kawi ninja 250, but she doesnt find it the most attractive bike. What kind of bike can I find for good price that will have the looks of cbr 600 or somewhere in that category.

How about a 2nd gen SVS with the full fairing kit? There is also that new Kawasucki 650R. How much is she looking to spend?

You can get OEM lowers for the 1st gen svs too, but it just does not look as good as the 2nd gens do.

Might wanna checkout a SV650, Ninja 650, Kawi EX550 to name a few. Id recommend to her starting on a smaller bike, learning, and then getting something you want later. No shame there in baby steps, you dont want to be in the girlfriend shopping business because of an accident.

Have her take the MSF course before you buy anything - and then go out looking.

What about an older 600? Early/mid 90'2? Not nearly as powerful as the newer 600's.

ask her how much she'd like her 600 supersport after it's wrecked and rashed? If she doesn't like the ninja 250's, under $4000 and it's has to look the part.. I'd say a F4i for it's unlimited versatility, modest power, sex appeal, ease of use, and low maintenance (fuel injected, no figity carbs to deal with).

Ya I was looking at those for her but thats still a lot of power for her. No offense to women, but she doesnt weight much and a nice bump or the wrong roll of the wrist can put her on the ground.

Where would be a good place to locate one of these bikes? Cycletrader.com doesnt have any and either does ebay from the search I did.

good thing i scrolled down before i replied because this is pretty much what i was gonna say. if she has no previous riding experience at all is a little scary. if i were you i would look into taking her to msf and im sure they have some type of beginners course. also, they probably have bikes you can ride there that would be smaller and easier to learn on. other than that i would say have her get comfortable on a dirt bike. i dont know about other peoples experiences but thats how i learned when i was little, and its just a more forgiving way of learning to ride. plus throttle control really shouldnt even be attempted to be learned on a 600. you would be dealing with smaller bikes with much wider overall powerbands, especially if yougot something like a 250F or a slightly used 125.

but there are good looking 500 street bikes out there if you look.

EDIT: damn i see i should have read the bottom too.

what i dont get is why she is treated differently because she is a woman that a guy in the same circumstace would.
most of the posters in this thread would have given completely different responces if this was about a guy.

I'm inclined to agree... Though, I can see caring more, as a buddy is a buddy, and a gf may have more "potential"... LoL...

I would highly recommend something less than 600 ccs;
- woman or not - more hours on a bike that won't scare you as easily is a lot more fun than being mentally traumatized for life by a near death experience. (As long as it's in good working condition)

My best friend is almost hellbent on getting an Aprilia Falco SL1000, but he's been down no less than 3x on different bikes... He knows what he's doing, but he pushes it to the limit+, and that's when it gets really dangerous. (He's put down a 250 cc trail bike, a 600 F4, and a Ducati ST something or other; he's still paying for some of it - which is a big reason why he doesn't have his dream bike.)

I was at a local Honda Stealership, and they had a newer version of my current bike (mine is a '82 Honda CM450E)... I think it was called the "Nighthawk". It has ~230 ccs, and the price tag seemed to start around $3500 brand new. The seating position is one that I really like... It's between the cruisers and the full sport bikes. (But it's still possible, and fun, to lean forward on it, hahaha)
