Default Wheel an tire combo question!!!!!

I have a 98 Civ EX. i swaped out the D16y8 for a B18C1 (other mods are on the way...just need the time to install) I plan on racing it...no street driving at all (unless i really really feel like a joy ride) I have a full supspension set up waiting for it as well (koni shocks with skunk2 springs and ground control). Money is kind of an issue but not really if the combo is worth the extra $$$. anyways the QUESTION is what wheels and tires should i get? I am thinking 15" wheels and Yoko Prada Spec 2's but, i hear they wear really quick. Any advice would be great! Thanks in advance

The Parada Spec 2 is a crappy tire. It's an inexpensive summer tire, but there are lots better inexpensive summer tires for the money (such as the Yokohama ES100 and Kumho Ecsta SPT).

However, tires are not a good place to save money when modding a car. As long as you are going to all the work and money to mod your car, then you should really spend some of your car budget on super sticky tires. It's maybe the most important mod for your car. After all, what's the point in increasing the horsepower and torque of your drivetrain if you don't have tires that can handle the added acceleration?

Since you plan on using the car only on the racetrack, then I would get some R compound track tires, if you have a lot of track experience (say, at least a dozen track events). If you don't have much track experience, then use whatever street tires you have on the car now, until you're ready to step up to R compounds. There are a lot of excellent track tires on the market now. The Toyo RA-1 is one of the best, but many others are very good as well (Yokohama A048, various Kumhos and Hoosiers, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup, Hankook Z211 and Z214, Avon Tech RA, etc). Most of these are available in 205/50-15 for your 15" wheels.

How much are you looking to spend on the rims?

Hmmmm....well Since it will be my first time out, i doubt it will be my first and last set of wheels lol. so a reasonable amount. I still have to paint the car, put a roll cage, harness and racing seat in it. and of course the fire extinguisher and kill switch. So... like a grand? But, under that would be really nice... I really agree with nsxtasy: that tires are not the place to cut corners. Wheels, just light weight would be nice and not like really cheapy.

well i'm sure there are gonna be people who agree and disagree with the following comment...but for a cheap and light wheel...look into some rotas. the only ones tmk that come in 15x7 are the slipstreams, gt3's and track-r's...oops and the jmag.

but of course, there are other brands with light wheels. i'm sure others will chime in.

Yeah i was actually considering the Slipstreams they look alright and they are pretty light....but i have been looking around and some people think (though it's really a mixed bag response) the quality is just not there....Thanks for your help!

Any other ideas?

The only time i've heard about a rota breaking is from when it was powdercoated, and that some how that weakend the rim and caused it to crack.

You could also consider;

Enkei RPF1 - 15x7 - 9.5lbs

Volk TE37 - 15x7 - 10.3lbs

Spoon SW388 - 15x6.5 - 8.6lbs

Racing Hart CP-035 - 15x6 - 7.9lbs, 15x7 - 9.4lbs

SSR Type C - 15x6 -8lbs, 15x6.5 - 8.6lbs, 15x7 - 9.2lbs

I don't know the weight of these wheels but you might want to look into them

Buddy Club P-1 SF

Kosei K-1 (I think they are around 12lbs)

Desomnd RegaMaster (I think they are the same weight as the Spoon's)
