Default Aircraft stripper safe on mugen mr5s?

I want to buy these black with polished lip mr5s. The black paint on the rims are flaking off, can i strip the paint using aircraft stripper? I want to bring it down to the bare metal. Can i leave them like that or will they rust? Maybe if i put a clear coat on then will they be good?

because aluminum can be highly reactive with certain elements, and once coming in contact with these elements, can become extremely weak or even highly combustable.

not saying this happens every day though
but id still rather clear them to take that extra precaution

just dont **** me off, or i may break an old school mercury thermometer on your wheels and watch them waste away

Yes it does. What do you think that white crusty stuff is? It might not look copper-ish, like Steel Rust does, but it's "rust" by definition. Oxidation plus some corrosive natural elements make them appear that way. Why do you think people who polish rims, clear coat them?

rust is iron oxide, Fe2O3 aluminum contains no iron.

By definition, Rust is corrosion. That's what I was referring to. Aluminum wheels do corrode (sp?), boosted. So, technically, we're both correct.

it's funny...i've stripped many many sets of wheels...from a few of my weld magnums (hate that ugly gold ****) to a set of volks in the barn to my friends oe itr wheels and various other sets in between. we ALWAYS use aircraft stripper. I have had 0 problems in the last 5-6 years of doing it. I've never heard any friends have issues, and i've never even read on the ******* internet (99.9% bullshit) about it causing issues. i've never had issues of any of the wheels "rusting" as well. the magnums set outside in the weather for more than 8 months stripped bare...brought them in, washed them, they looked just like they did when they go stripped. if you strip the wheels, just wash them occasionally and you'll have 0 issues as well.

Crappy quality alloys will get the "white rust" effect to them. My friends '80's Corvette did. It took a heavy amount of elbow grease to get it off.

Well, if you don't think that aluminum corrodes, poor some Pepsi on it and watch it fade away.

Only if you want to be stubborn and never even agree with anything I've said. It's kind of rude, and quite bothersome.

What do you think Fe stands for? Hmmmm, maybe it's iron.

Most aluminum alloys contain iron and most aluminum alloys will corrode over time.

To the poster, a majority of the parts on an airplane are aluminum. I think you'll be OK using aircraft stripper on them. I would polish and clear the after.
