need help quick, oil on spark plugs, hesitates under 3 k rpm
i have a 89 crx si, its got 330,000 miles on it, today i turned it on and it drove fine for a few then it started hesitating and missing reall bad. i made it home, and checked to see if it was the plug wires, but they looked fine.
then i pulled the plugs 1 and 2 and they were cover in oil. i didint pull the other two but i could see oil around the base of them.
what is wrong with the car? head gasket? valve guides? seals. how could i tell? the oil is on the bottom of the plug not the top.
also i did the valve cover gasket, and spark plug tube seals.

I would try a compression test and or a leak down test. That way you know the bottom end is still good and you are holding adquite pressure in the motor under load (pressure). If you dont have a compression tester I got mine from sears for 35 or 40 bucks and works like a champ.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help - good luck, I think I have fuel pressure issues so I feel your pain.

thanks for your response. i pulled the other two plugs and 3 had oil on it to. so thats plugs 1 2 and 3 with ooil on the i dried them off and stuk them back in and the car runs alil better,
does anyone else know, if its a blown gasket, i need to know casue fast, if its blown im sellin the car.

Oil is on the threads or on the electrode?
If you have oil on the threads, It's a valve cover seal
If the electrodes are oily, I'd say Its time for a rebuild with a motor of that mileage.

I have that same problem. Those plugs start to foul out and it starts to miss. I think that its just the seals right around the valve cover that it goes through it leaks onto the threads then down onto the electrode.

this is true, my b18 in my crx did the same thing when i first was putting it in, you can go to autozone or a parts store and get a full gasket set (valve cover, spark plug chambers, etc) for like 27dlls.. its worth the money. and the only tools you need is a 10mm and a flat head screwdriver to pull the plastic rings.
well its on the threads and look like it gettin on the electrodes. hence the missing and hesitation. i didi the valve coever and spark plug grommet gasket thing like a month ago
