So I drive this CRX home after buying it for real cheap. The next day I back down the driveway and the axle pops out and shreds the inner boot. OK whatever I go buy a new one and put it in no big deal. Now the car will only go in reverse and not go into any of the other gears. What the hell could this be? Thanks for any input

clutch bearings? How did the clutch feel before this happened? Check the shift linkage for sticks, and look at the stifter on the bell housing. You should be able to reach under your front bumper and put the car into gear. But I'm thinking it's time to look at the clutch since you just got the car for so cheap, sometimes they are ticking-timebombs. Let us know how it goes.

manual or automatic?

 

Thanks for the responses. Its a manual by the way. Clutch felt fine and shifted fine the day before the **** hit the fan. Could be the clutch I suppose.

 

will it go in grear when the car is off?

It goes in reverse, but not first? and it goes in (1st)gear when it's off? Could be your TOB or pressure plate. does it grind when you try to put it in first? is it making any whining noises or anything?
