Default Do you like your Skunk2 Valve Train

I have an H22 with and H23 bottom end. I have the the full Skunk2 Valve Train. I have a few more parts but don't feel like listing it, to much to list.
My question is, Are you guys happy with your Skunk2 Valve Train? I have heard good and bad, so im just wondering for my own peace of mind.
Thanks Fellow Honda-Techers!

I havent had any problem out of mine yet. My engine still runs good, but they will murder an auto tensioner. So i would convert to manual tension for sure.

I bought a spare H22 head off ebay with full Skunk2 Valvetrain...so I'm curious as well. I've heard stories of skunk2 valvetrains messing up rockers when you use the stock cams because there spring tensions are too high.

I wish skunk2 offered steel retainers for us that use our rides as our daily drivers. I'm going with crower chromly retainers so I don't have to change retainers every 25k-30k.

Is Crower the only company that makes Chromoly retainers?

Im not sure why but it seems like a lot of people do have to replace their titanium retainers at around 30,000 miles.

that's pretty much true. A fact in the matter of titanium is that it doesn't last as long as steel does, but of course it is much lighter.

Would steel retainers from another company work well with the spings and valves from Skunk2? I've heard bad things about crossing company when it comes to these things, but that was only in one place.

Glad I read this thread, I was ready to go Titanium! Eep!

I'm wondering about this too. I want to use crower steel retainers with my skunk2 springs. Anyone know if it is safe to do this?

I've been on Jun ti retainers since Oct'2001. Over 70,000 miles on them with no problems whatsoever. See no indications of wear either. hmm.... makes you wonder.

It really does, because I, too, have been seeing several sources saying Titanium wears quick..maybe it's just Skunk2's titanium?

Im not doubting what you guys have said but I don't understand how titanium is harder than steel, yet it wears faster. It just doesn't seem to make much sense. Bump for someone to shed some light on the subject.

Reverse that. Titanium is softer.

Titanium is certainly not stroger then steel. However, for it's weight, it is exceptionally strong.

So according to the chart, get carbon fibre retainers haha

Are aluminum and chromoly about the same? I would have figured chromoly would be MUCH stronger...

Crower has come out with a much stronger titanium retainer.
Taken from crower's site:

"Crower is the only manufacturer that utilizes Ti-17 titanium material in the manufacturing process of their titanium retainers. Although harder and longer to machine, the Ti-17 is 8-10 points harder on the Rockwell C scale for added retainer life over conventional 6AL4V titanium used by all other manufacturers. The result is added longevity and durability. Crower converted to Ti-17 about two years ago and has seen no wear due to excessive mileage or high rpm's"
