my friend was driving his 96 auto Si back from work last night and it randomly shut down. all the electronics work, the engine just turned off, and now it wont turn over. he wasnt flooring it, and its not like he did a bunch of neutral drops or something stupid, so i doubt it was the transmission? when he popped the hood he said it smelt sweet, so i think it has something to do with his fuel pump. any info/tips/whatever would be appreciated. thanks

I had a similar experience with a friends Focus. The alterantor out and the car was just running on the battery. We were driving on the fwy when the car just shut of and then back on (Auto). Finally the battery drained out and the car wouldn't start.
Check the battery and alternator.
Check the battery and alternator.
My car suddenly shut off going down the highway, it didnt smell sweet but all the gauges worked but no crank. It ended up my ecu fuse blew. I fixed that and everything worked fine.
