gsr cam for my b16
a guy i know here in town has a set of gsr cams... well his friend does that he wants to get sell, well, are there any marks or anything on the cams that will let me know that they are gsr cams, not b16 cams, or even worse ls cams. Like i said, are there any numbers or cast codes or whatnot so i can make sure they are what he says they are, i dont know why he would cheat me, but **** happens. The cams came out of a 96 gsr
Well if they are LS cams a retard could tell the difference, no Vtec lobes. The best way to tell really is too measure the lobes, any Honda shop should be able to measure them and tell you what's up. Or if you trust the guy you could get them and when you have your B16 cams out you may be able to just eyeball if they are bigger or not than the "GSR" cams.

Probably put expect to get raped, small shops will useually help out more w/o hitting you over the head. you may get lucky though

For real go with the ITR/CTR Cams Believe us There is a huge difference especially in VTEC. Even looking at the 3 laid out b16, GSR, and ITR The itr will stand out the lobes are huge compared the the b16/gsr cams!

Thats actually the combo I have (ITR/GSR) and it works awesome!! I would have a type R cam on the exhaust side but w/o upgrading the vavle springs I don't want risk floating a valve, the GSR is about as big as I can go w/o worry. I was not sure if just GSR cams would be noticable but I do know they are a least a little bigger than B16 cams

he is right. OR you can go with ITR intake with type-r intake manifold and CTR exhaust as well.

but if you do the Exh. cam w/o upgrading to dual valve springs (like on the intake side) likw the Type R has then you run the risk of floating a valve if you rev like I do. The safe way on a b16 is to run Type R on the intake and the GSR is pretty much as big as you can go w/o worry. I have heard people running the Type R cam on the exhaust side w/o upgrading the v.springs but your just playing with fire. the way I drive I just don't want to risk it.

I have ran the type r cams in 3 different b16 and a gsr all fine but i only rev to 8000 also
Are the CTR cams even bigger than the ITR`s? If so, then yea i wouldnt chance those with stock springs...

Yeah that's what one of my friends thought as well, his motor has not run right ever since he installed them (well a very experinced aftermarket honda mechanic installed them so I know they were done right), He has less power now than he did with stock B16 cams. He won't be buying blox anything anymore.

Whether they were installed right or not has nothing to do with the cams making power. Get them TUNED, and remember most of those stage II and III cams with the high lift and duration don't work well with stock compression. You have to do the whole package, CTR piston, upgraded valvesprings, and high lift cams. Then you need to get it TUNED.
Don't speak badly about a cam unless they disintegrate like the early Crower cams or melt like the OBX ones.
