D-series Tranny Overhaul Question
hey guys, i just put my '88 Si tranny back together. took it apart to replace some bearings. All went well but i was left with one extra part, its a thin washer almost 1.5" in diameter and it looks to be a spring washer of some sort because it is bowed. the tranny seems to go through all gears ok and everything moves good. does anyone know where this might go? btw i never took any gears or synchros off the shafts, took shafts out as an assembly and put them aside. i think maybe it might go in the hole that the mainshaft drops into but i'm not sure, any advice, how important is this thing. should i rip it all back apart or no
It is probably a thrust washer that the mainshaft goes into, it is necessary to maintain the proper clearance in the trans. I bet you would run into problems if you didn't put it in there, and the ISB would probably wear out pretty quickly.
i never took the nut off the shaft, i pulled it out as an assembly so that would rule that washer out right? i'm pretty sure it has to go in before i drop the mainshaft in, i just looked at a diagram on majestic honda.com and it says there's supposed to be a 36mm spring washer there, i think thats its. thanks for the help guys
