help - which performs better 86 crx si or 87 celica? getting info on these two cars.
so i'm thinking about buying another car.
which of these two do you think perform better? in any aspect. cars are about the same price. celica is assumed to be the 115hp model. does anybody have any quarter mile times for these cars? searched but to no avail.

I would choose the CRX for one simple reason: aftermarket support. Aftermarket support (or lack thereof) has always been THE thorn in the side of the Celica. So while it might be faster than the CRX, good luck finding so much as a header for that motor. But with the CRX, the sky is the limit. Engine mods might be on the rare side with the stock engine. But you can always swap in a B-series motor for INSTANT power. And the aftermarket for B-series motors is about as good as it gets on pretty much anything short of a smallblock Chevy. If you were to drop in, say, a GSR motor and do a few simple mods, then high 12s or low 13s would not be out of the question. Options such as this one are just not available with the Celica.
one more thing i forgot to add. car is going to be used as a stock daily driver. i have another car i'm trying to sell right now 95 sho taurus, which is pretty quick, but i'm afraid it won't be reliable but it's fast enough. so i'm gonna sell it and try to get a reasonably quick car, but this one just for fuel economy and puttin around town.

fuel economy and putting around town -> the rex is the obvious choice here.
honda was (and still is) one of the world leaders in fuel economy as far as major automobile corporations go. plus you have the tried, tested and true honda reliability.

if your trying to find a daily then why worry about quarter mine times? save up cash and get a newer car becaue by getting a 87 your gunna be putting some serious cash into the car as i doubt anyone has a "mint" one for sale anymore. id try to get a Ef (88-91) crx/civic instead. and if you want more info on the celica why dont you search a toyota forum? it owuld be eaiser to get the info on the celica from there than on a honda fourm.

They are both going to be high 16's at best and probably mid 17's. Easiest solution is to test drive them both and pick the one that puts the biggest smile on your face.

The crx would run circles around that celica as far as the handling department. Just something eles to think about...
Depending on what trim the crx would be its not that hard to do an engine swap. There are numerous swaps that would do a body good, and at a resonable cost with great gas mileage.

As far as reliability, both should be similar. Toyota is no VW or GM when it comes to reliability. Performance should also be similar. The REAL difference is that there are options for increased performance with the CRX, but NOT with the Celica. Now that's not to say that you couldn't weld something crazy under the hood of a Celica. But while a CRX can take a B-series motor with a mount kit, there is nothing that you can do to a Celica that doesn't involve ALOT of crazy stuff.

Hey, I used to have a 86 celica gt, with the 97 hp lol, if that's an 87 gts it would have like what, 130 somethin? Plus it has a nice little wrap around spoiler lol. I'd get the celica, I would think it's faster than the crx, plus it'll come with power windows and what not
I got decent mileage on my old celica.

OMG! looks like the first thing you want to do is try to own people.
Even after reading that what makes you think that an 86-87 CRX Si couldnt run those numbers as mentioned before. There is a TON of **** that you could do to that car without even touching that engine, and its still considered ALL stock; no aftermarket needed. You act as if a 16.1 is an UNBEILIVABLE e.t. with that car. Loose the 63lbs and BAM, 16.1.
GTFOOH...noob.
