Default Did anyone hear about this new rule for NHRA regarding fire jackets?

This was posted on thespeedlounge by all motor notch. I have looked on the NHRA site and do not see this as an update and I did not see it in the general regs pdf.

There is a new rule for 2006 regarding all non-stock power adder cars including non-stock Turbo, non-stock Supercharger and all Nitrous Oxide cars.

You will require a single layer fire jacket to race with these power adders at any if you are slower than 10.00.

Section 1A, located on page 24 of the 2006 NHRA Rulebook read as follows:
10.00 (*6.40 1/8 mile) and slower; all E.T. non-OEM supercharged, non-OEM turbocharged, or nitrous-equipped cars with an OEM or .024-inch steel firewall: Jacket meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/1 mandatory

In addition any car running over 135 mph will have additional requirements so please ask if you think you will be in that area.

These jackets can be gotten from http://www.summitracing.com, http://www.jegs.com or any other race oriented web site. Cost will be around $100 - $200 or so.

For the local guys.
My understanding is that Raceway Park (Etown) Souvenir store will be stocking SFI 1 jackets if you cannot get one in time.

Okay that did not answer my question. Not to be an *** but if you want to sell stuff start another thread. I am trying to find out if this is true for a bunch of my friends that don't have jackets. I did not see it posted on the site or in any rule book.

Isn't 3.2/A1 spec just like the Jackets required for 11.49 and quicker cars? I have the $40 G-force jacket and it says 3.2/1A right on the sleeve.

Yeah I believe so. But does this mean anyone that wants to race a car that was not turboed, sc from the factory must now go out and buy a jacket to race? So people that are running brackets and only running like 14's now need to run a fire jacket.

That's what I get from it. Kind of lame but, it's for peoples safety so, we can't complain.

Yeah I agree with you. I was wearing mine only running 12's. I just want to make sure this is a must before I tell my friends and they go buy jackets.

Call NHRA directly. I called the other day to ask about Chassis Cert. and they were very helpful. Much better customer service than I expected. for NHRA.

I'd have to agree. I've seen some pretty scary stuff under peoples hoods, in trunks, etc. (guilty myelf back in the day).

i thought you needed a jacket at 11.49 anyway, i was looking at the rule revisions, i think that pertains to people running alcohol as a fuel. i could be wrong.

You do but, what he's asking is even cars that go 13's and 14's have to have them now if they are not FI form the factory. (I.E. the Turbo'd RSX's he hangs out with that run 12's and 13's.)

If tha car has a 10pt. it has to be cert'd. Mine leaves tomorrow. I just got the rest of the interior out last night. I broke the Windshiled wiper handle on the column (inside the column) pulling it out . I'm not sure where, I'm going to be able to get one of those .

so does that mean us non-factory turbo cars will have even more rules to conform to at 135mph?

Phil,
where do you get the chassis cert? at the track or what? also why not leave the dash and what not in the car for the cage builder so that everything fits back in for power street?

I'm getting mine done at US13 dragway. They have a cert. day on the 18th of Mar. The dash had to come out because the cage goes through it. I'll be cutting some of the dash away to make it fit back in. It'll have full interior again once it's cert'd. and ready for PW/S
