Found a solid deal on a CBR600 F4i. Shoot me your opinion...
Been on a Kawasaki Ninja 500R for the past month (first bike) and been very eager to upgrade. I've been a honda die-hard for years and since getting into bikes the 600 F4's have been on my mind for a while now. Let me know if this looks decent.
2002 CBR F4i
-less than 6,000 miles
-original owner, 47yr old guy that also has 2 Ducatis, 2 Hondas, plus a Vespa
-Leo Vince High Pipe
-Power Commander 3 w/map to match can
-otherwise all stock
-about 50% tread left on Dunlop race tires (not sure of model)
asking $5200, but I think I can bring him down to $5k flat
The bike's never been down, checked it out myself. All the fairings are original and is great shape. Looks cleaner than many of the bikes I've seen at the local dealers. Let me know what you guys think and if there is anything I should look for specific to the CBR's. Thanks in advance

I'd say that's a pretty decent deal at 5Gs. It's not a "steal" by no mean but it's a lot better than what they go for at this time of the year which is around 5500+, and it surely has less miles than the average 02 bikes. Go for it!

Ride it for the rest of the summer. Then upgrade. That's just my opinion. If you really can't stand the looks of your bike, then go ahead and buy the F4i. The learning curve will be steeper on the 500R.

RRs and CCTs. That's just a wear item that will need to be replaced as needed or ugpraded.
In all honesty, what bothers me most is that the owner put on "race" tires (are they 208GPAs? or just 208ZRs?). A knowledgeable rider knows that race tires do not belong on the street, since they won't heat up fast enough to provide adequate traction. They could possibly be takeoffs from a racer, though, so I may be wrong that he tracked/raced the F4i. And the bike is MINT. He might have used track plastics for the bike.
But maybe I'm just too skeptical.

id get him lower.. I got my 2002, with 3k miles, all stock, and in mint condition, for 5k. Id say bargain more.
Thanks for the input. I'm definitely still in the market and though my Ninja is for sale, I doubt it'll be sold anytime real soon. And yes, Cali prices are a little steeper than other parts of the country.
One other question if you have a minute: Would a '98 CBR600 w/23,XXXmiles be worth looking at? A local seller has one listed for $3500, but I'm a little sketchy on the high mileage for maintenance and resale value when I sell it in a couple years. Any advice would be appreciated.

98 F3 is a great bike. I had a 95, and rode it for 15k+ miles before selling it (it had 53k when I sold it). She still ran strong.
As long as the maintenance has been diligently performed, the motor should last forever.
How's the condition of the motorcycle?

$5200 is an alright price, $5000 would obviously be a lot better.
I would also go with the F4 instead of the '98 CBR. F4is are easier to ride, better resale, ergos, and track better than the older CBRs.

for a 2002 f4i i personally think is way too much...go to craiglist.org and youll find lots of deals there or even recycler.com

yep, norcal
but this was during the off season. I was going to get one but i couldn't really justify it to myself at the time so i didnt. If you have cash in hand you can get good deals just dont fall for the first thing that pop up.

bike prices are weird. I got my 98 superhawk with mods for $3k in slight offseason. Then again it never sold as well as other bikes. I've seen f2's from 1500-2500. F3's from the same range. F4's around 3k. My friend got his 03 r6 for $6k with mods but not as much as this one but fewer miles. best is just to compare it to similar year and make and really tbh mods don't add as much as they're really worth when you get them. aka you don't raise a bike's price $800 cause it has $800 slip ons on it. etc etc... So if it's comparable to others then go for it. It isn't bad. But since you don't have much experience I'd say see if you can live with what you got for longer and get an upgrade in the offseason
Damn 5k.. I got my 600RR with only 2,020 miles for less than that. But if it's really clean, sounds like a good deal. I say get it if you like it, you'll be very happy.
Oh yeah, dont worry about upgrading so soon.. I was a little iffy on going from my Nighthawk to a 600RR but if you have a good head on your shoulders, just take it slow and you'll be fine.

Thanks for all the advice. I feel really good on the Ninja and am in no real rush to get a new bike, though this one is extra clean. As far as on/off season go...I'm assuming spring and summer are on season and not the best time to buy a bike. Likewise, fall and winter would be off season and the time to find a good deal on a bike from a "fair-weather" rider. Lucky I live in Santa Barbara where it only rains 20 days out of the year
Keep this up a bit longer to see if I get a couple more opinions.

Haha, saw that one a few days ago. It's a pretty sweet bike but I'm into a more subtle color scheme. Not a huge fan of orange. Thanks though
