Which Tie Rod Ends?
Last week while at the tire dealer getting my tires rotated and alignment checked, I was told the tie rod ends are in need of replacing. Since my steering wheel shakes at high speeds I'll get em done. I priced some out at Napa where I buy most of my parts, and I was asked which ones I need. I thought that usually the left and right outer tie rod ends are all that needs replacing but he also asked me about the inner ones as well? Do those usually need replacing and if so, how difficult of a job is that to change? I've never done inner rods before. Thanks!
i was told the same thing but a shop, and it ended up being my drive shaft, you might wanna check that out.....they told me it was my outer tie rod ends...so if its true what they told you check those out first...but you might wanna check your half shaft...just look at the cvc shaft for a hole in the boot
There are both an inner and an outer tie rod joint on each tie rod.
One attaches to the Steering Knuckle
The other attaches to the Rack Rod in the Steering Rack.
The outer joints wear out more frequently (about 10 outers' for every 1 inner).
You should have them all checked.
Work out with your repair shop the best course of action.
I (personally) would replace both outers (even if only one were worn), but I'd only replace what's required with regards to the inners.
