Default How low is too low? (Tire psi)

Im going to the track tommorrow and its supposed to be 40 degrees. I have a 90 CRX with a stock B16. I had another CRX just like it that was stolen but with the other I had nothing but tracion problems in like 50 degree weather. I ran 15.1-15.3s with 2.4-2.5 60ft times. I have Dunlop SP Sports with plenty of meat on them on my stock 14" SI wheels. The max psi is 44, I think I have them at 33-35 right now so Ill need to lower them. But how low is too low before I will start to see a decrease is proformance? Ill be able to make plenty of runs so should i just lower them a little at a time? Or what psi would you recommend?

Street tires will not help improve your times. Going to drag radials or slicks with definitely improve your time. Additionally 50 degree weather will not help too much even with slicks.

ive had SP sports before, I pulled 1.9 and 2.0 60fts w/ them. I had the air at 25psi. they like to be warm also, not hot. So just do a lil tire spin and get to the staging lanes. Dont over launch them either, they arnt slick.

The best ET I had was 14.7 with a 2.4 60ft. I had them at about 25-26psi. How the hell to I get better 60 fts. On my old CRX with a b16 I had 2.4 60 fts too. Any advice on how to improve myself?

Actually, lowering the tire pressure on street tires does help slightly. We ran my car on 35 psi, then took it down to 19 psi and it dropped out ET by .1

So it's not a lot, but it made a difference regardless. Lowering the tire pressure widens your contact patch, which will improve traction regardless of what kind of tires you're running.

try differnt things. find what RPM you can leave at with tire spin and without.

Example.

keep rpms around 4,000. on the second yellow preload the clutch by slipping out on the clutch a hair so it just starts to catch. Then release half way, then fully. Keep your foot steady where you were maintaining 4k the whole time. If you arnt spinng and are moving then floor it.

Going into 2nd dont WOT shift to 2nd because it will lead to tire spin. Just shift quickly but instead of popping the clutch, release slower like you would daily driven around.. At the same time w/ gas, have gas at 75% going into 2nd. IF your hookin floor it.

If 4,000 seems like it is bogging or wheel hopping, try it a lil higher. Sometimes you can get a slight spin while holding it partal throttle, but be pulling. Then when it hooks floor it.

this should be enough to work on while at the track. Good luuck.

I'm pretty consistant at 2.0-2.1 60ft's on normal street tires like this. These are some setups on NORMAL street tires ive pulled good times w/.

2.0 60ft, 14.2 @ 97 , B20b w/ GSR tranny. i/h/e/test pip/safc
2.0 60ft, 12.7@110 , b20b w/ gsr tranny, 8psi of boost.
1.9 60ft, 13.0@ 105 , b18b w/ LS tranny, 6psi of boost
2.0 60ft, 12.2@122 , b18b w/ LS tranny , 16psi of boost

BFG's
1.78 60ft, 11.50@125 , LSvtec w/ LStranny , 10psi of boost.
