Default Smog test: CO2 failed...

OK.

My CO2 numbers were 300 and MAX allowed is 100

Engine is B16A, with AEM intake, dc 4-1,invidia exhaust and JUN lightweight flywheel.

Doesn't it mean that Engine is not burning gas as good as it should?

What thing should I check?

Does catalysator effect to CO2 numbers?

My engine is leaking oil somewhere dizzy, vtec solenoid OR around headgasket?
I have changed dizzy O-ring and vtec solenoid gasket, didn't help the oil leak.

Could the head gasket be "blown" somewhere at the 4th cylinder and leak oil in 4#cyl?

Help

your oil leak could be coming from the cam plug.

How old is your cat?

Yes it could be the cam plug

Dunno about the cat, it might be 10 years old :D Does a cat remove CO2 from exhaust gases?

Does the oil leak into the cylinder and blow out the exhaust, or does the oil just make a mess on the engine block and engine bay?

Does the smoke come out the exhaust or does the smoke come out from the engine bay?

umm...Well it doesn't come from either places?

I took it to a shop, I bought the motor. We'll see what they have to say about it

Have you done a cylinder leak down test, better known as a compression test? You might have some blow-by. Is it a healthy engine?

No I didn't do compression test :l Shop said the engine has 85.000km driven?! Don't know anything else. I have not been driven dohc vtec engine before, but yes it pulls much better than my d16z did...

If oil gets in to cylinder, does that cause more CO2 gases???

Okay, check your plugs for oil, the plugs should be slightly ashy, not white, no black. Worn or improper seated valve guides or seals sometimes cause oil to blow out the exhaust and kill your chances of getting the vehicle smogged....

try running denatured alcohol in your gas tank. It burns cleaner. Thats what we did to get my cousins 2.0L sleeved gsr motor to pass smog.

how is your CO2 300. CO2 is combustion effeciency. it is calculated in percentage. its your CO that you failed on correct? if you failed on CO then you are running rich.

I don't know about that. I know in my box I have a compression tester and a leak down tester...

what??? Different tool! Different process! They are different and leakdown tests are better known as leakdown tests while compression tests are better known as compression tests

Well I'll be damned. In the ARMY we used to use the same tool for both. And, I have always used the tool for both. I stand corrected gentlemen.

I can't see how one can do a leakdown test with ONLY a compression gauge. Not trying to argue, can you explain?

okay i'll clarify

compression test you crank the motor and see how much compression is left in each cylinder.

leak down test, you put each cylinder to tdc and dont crank, apply 30psi into the cylinder and see what is the percentage of leakage.

now that is that. how is it the same process. i know my compression tester dont read percentage

No, believe me. not arguing, ageeing. I know you can MAKE a leakdown tester with two pressure gauges, but not that I know of with just compression tester.
