Default WHP estimation, am I correct?

Hey,

I am building two engines at the moment, one that will go in my track only beater (drag & road race) and one that will go in my daily driver / lapping car.

The first engine is the one that will go in my track beater. This car is very low budget as it is only for fun, not for competition. I am building this engine with parts I have laying around my garage.

D15b7 short block (dpfi 88-91)
D16a6 ported & milled head
MPFI conversion
Custom intake & straight pipe 2" exhaust

I was estimating about 115 flywheel hp?

Second engine will go in my project car that is basically a chassis at the moment

D16y8 from 1.6 EL
OBD1 conversion
CBR 929 40 mm ITBs
Milled head
test pipe
2.25" exhaust
11 lbs flywheel

I was expecting around 125-130 whp. Are my numbers way off? Anybody else here has done a d16y8 ITB setup?

Sorry for all the questions, thanks in advance

Do yourself a favor. Dont estimate numbers just hope for the best. The reason I say that is because if you dont hit your marks you are gonna be upset. All motors are not the same and certain conditions can alter the performance of your engine. So the best thing to do is just hope for some good numbers but always prepare for the worst.

I understand that, 120-125 whp would be a low number for my ITB setup since someone here made 133 whp with a mostly stock d15b (great project by the way!). I honestly dont really care for hp numbers (unless they are abnormaly low), it was just to give me an idea of where about I should be.

The ITBs are more like an ingredient for big recipe The cam is coming soon don`t worry. And I have them lying around so why not stick them on, they are 929 RR ITBs so 40 mm (38 mm at the throttle plate) so they are not overkill for my conservative setup.

I said the headwork is coming soon, and that is why I`m getting the head milled down (maybe 0.040") before installing the ITBs, to increase the compression a little.

if i was in your situation i wouldnt mill the head, i would just go with high compression pistons

since nobody else is answering your question, yes those numbers should be close to what you make with those set ups.

because what about when you want to put high compression pistons in and you cant because your head is decked and the pistons will hit the head
