Default 91 Crx Owner looking for some opinions on coilovers........

Ive got a 91 crx that I daily drive and was looking to get some coilovers......I'm having a tough time deciding what company to go with. I searched alot of threads and found alot of people like the ksports, D2's, Tein SS, etc....I am going to be daily driving/ taking the car to the dragstrip more than going through the canyons.....in your opinion what would you choose for my situation?

Looking for coilovers that will be comfortable for daily driving, but also a set that I can use to take the dragstrip and MAYBE an occasional canyon. Mostly DD/drag though......any help is appreciated.

If you want to choose based solely on measureable performance gains, you'll be hardpressed to find results on here, as we don't have nearly enough consistent and skilled drivers who are using these sets to provide data.
In my opinion, any set of coilovers you get would do more or less the same thing for your needs. It then comes down to a matter of budget. There is indeed a "good, better, and best" but most people are not in a position to tell the differences. Of course, the information is out there, you need to know what questions to ask.

Well I was considering the Tein SS w/ pillowball mounts but Ive been reading that the spring rates are too soft. I just want something mostly for street/strip. Not too worried about autox/canyon or any of that stuff. And I have been reading that the Omnis are horrible for EF's......

Softer rates = better for daily driving, and you don't need super stiff springs for the drag strip (maybe for the rears though... not something you'll find in many aftermarket coilovers anyhow). Be honest with yourself, can you live with stiff rates, or do you want it just to say you have it? I recommend something like 8k/6k to the majority of people who ask.
Pillowballs are largely unnecessary for double wishbone type suspensions. More of the stuff you don't want (nvh transmitted to the cabin, shortened life span of upper mounts), none of the stuff you do (no noticeable performance gains).

So you recommend using the SS coilovers with the stock top hats? Upper pillowball mounts dont have any noticeable performance gain? Any other suggestions on other possible companies for what I'm looking for? (I'm open to suggestions) I think I could live with a somewhat stiff suspension but I dont want one that makes me feel like someone keeps punching me in the kidney

If you don't know what they will do then you certianlly don't need them, and on a street car it will just be "look have pillowball mounts".

i really wasn't aware that tein made them for non strut cars.

I'm not sure where the "kidney punishing" metaphor came from, but it seems like someone would have to purposely go out of their way to design a coilover so badly to the point where your internals are being abused.
Its up to you how stiff you want to go, but based on what I have seen, most people draw the line at something around 550lbsF/450lbsR (10kF/8kR) rates. Looking at the suspension frequency, this would put a car like your typical 92-95 Civic Coupe right around 126 CPM in front and 146 CPM rear which is considered a "good" range for a stiffly-suspended car to run at.

So upper pillow ***** mounts are more for the auto x kind of car? And are totally unneccessary for the street? I have heard that street cars dont need them but have always wondered........the SS can have pillowball mounts added to the order for of course some extra cash. Its just an option offered.\

The kidney punishing was just a joke......wasnt being serious.

So would u guys recommend the Tein SS with stock top hats? Or another company?

Pillowball mounts on your car are not anymore necessary for auto-xing than they are for road-racing or daily driving or baking a cake. Again, the point here is that any performance gain is going to be unnoticeable that you would need to know exactly what to look for/test for and how to test for it in order to see the gains.

I like sperical bearings any place i can get them, (on a race car), there are other benifits also...

Benefits from using them in the upper mounts?

Ok, well it looks like pillowball mounts are pretty much a waste of money for me......So maybe I'll just get the super streets with the EDFC and leave it at that. Have you guys heard anything about the lower control arms from skunk2? Sorry for all the noob questions, but I'm not a suspension expert. And I want to make a good decision. Thanks for all your help guys Changing the lower control arms will stiffen the ride? or just for looks? Please fill me in because I am clueless about any of this suspension ****

yes in race car aplications.

Noticiable? maybe i don't know how much but i don't know how much sperical bearings in all other bushing locations would do either, but i do know that they are no excuses the best.
