I need some guidance as to what amp to choose. I am seriously thinking about competing in SQ by summer 2007, and I am trying to figure out what type system I should get. I want to be under 1000w category.

My setup will be an Audiobanh ALUMN12N sub, a pair of MB Quart PCE 216(not yet bought), and a pair of MB Quart PCE 164(not yet bought).

I have talked to a few different people and have heard different suggestions as what to get. I was told that the Xtant 2.2(x2) and 3.1 are a good setup. I am also looking at Audison amps.

What are your suggestion as to what amp I should get and maybe even speaker wise? And could you tell me what i have to look for when choosing an amp for sound quality. My goal is to get a full setup by the end of August with a $1500-$1700 budget. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tnks Ryan.

Or one 13 the only noticable rattle i have in my car are from the buttons for the lights on the ceiling... I cant seem to get rid of it

won't be able to feel timpani's at 18Hz with a couple of 8's That's part of the fun - the low low stuff!

 

Do you really think that more than 5 people on ht listen to music that has timpani's???

If your looking for SQ, here are a couple of my suggestions I have found good combo's in the past

Focal. Engineered and designed in France. Not bad on pricing either. Dont go with the components cause its just way to expensive. Get yourself there seperates and run a 1" Dome Titanium Tweeter and you will be good.

Subs: I still JL Audio is quality You just cant go wrong with them.

Amps: For your mids & highs go with a company that has low distortion rating and a good built in crossover. 4 Channel Amp. I recommend Memphis Car Audio Products

Sub Amp: Get your self a Class D amplifier which will give you good power output with low power draw. Good clean power

Remember a good stereo system requires also a good head unit. Eclipse, Pioneer Elite, Clarion Pro Audio are my choices.

ok, you got me there, I maintain though that you can get great sq out of any sized driver - if I had the room, I'd just run one IDQ15 with 500W, instead I'm stuck with two 10's

 

^ I think you mean pioneer premier, you're confusing home and car Oh and how are you differentiating separates and components?

Clarion I haven't heard good things about, but haven't used em myself so won't knock em. Pioneer crossover's tend to be sloppy, though not sure about this year's models.

Eclipse can be fantastic for cd players, my only complaint is that they don't sound great out of the box, ie finicky.

If you're looking for great sound of the box I would recommend a kenwood xxv01d or at least a kdcx790

 

pioneer HUs definitely favor deftones, so they sound impressive. the premier stuff is beautiful. their speakers are pretty neutral. i like alpine HUs for outright sound quality. very clean, good power. for amps and subs, check out http://www.edesignaudio.com

I will be installing everything myself. I have a 93 civic sedan. I also will be installin a full roll of brownbread.

My budget of $1500 is only for the amplifiers. I can get all xtant amps at a good price so I am asking if I should go for it or is there other amps in that price range?

I've never liked how the pce's sounded, and as a general rule mbq's are too bright. They sound great in showrooms but are kinda brash in car.

For a good set of components. I would recommend a set of diamond audio S600S's (silk tweeter, very smooth) and not too hard on the wallet @ $550/pr retail.

Actual on second thought I see you're looking at a 3-way setup. If that's the case then get some S400S's w/ the S6.0MX3. Will sound fantastic with the right amp. If you go this route I would recommend matching the gear and doing a D6600.4 bridged to the fronts and D61500.1 running @ 4ohms to your sub.

If its an sq car, I would definately recommend not doing an audiobahn sub

 

Why not drop the mid bass drivers and go for a set of Q-line Q216 sig. instead, for SQ you really don't want speakers behind you anyway... http://www.mbquart.de/en/produ...q_216
Then think about another amp the one you link is only 2x50W rms into 4 ohms and even the PEC216s are 60W and the Q216 sig. are 90W, maybe the xtant4.4 bridged into 2ch mode, give yourself some "dynamic headroom" without over driving the amp. 94

I had some qsd's, but they were far too bright for my liking. Hell even my boston Z's are a little bright for me

i fail to see the correlation between a 12 and unworthy sq

and two 8's and good sq

care to explain how that makes any sense?

 

As a general rule, the smaller the speaker, the tighter the bass. Tight bass = teh win. Why do you think focal makes such small subwoofers?

 

/\/\ Well u can make the bass tighter with a 12 by making a smaller box within the spec range.

And yes i am going to run a 3-way sound stage up fron and nothing in the rear. Here is my delimma. I can get those mb quarts a full 3-way setup for $700, or should i consider another speaker choice?

As for the amplifiers I forgot to mention i want to be under 1000w in total, if that's makes a difference.

 

All things being equal 2 8's &gt; 1 12 for sq.

Granted there are exception's, but we're not talking about exception's are we?

As for the amplifiers I forgot to mention i want to be under 1000w in total, if that's makes a difference.</TD></TR></TABLE> OIC, the problem I see is how are you going to mount them, the PCE 164 will fit in the stock door location if a custom MDF speaker housing is made to replace the stock plastic one, and with Dynamating, [or the like] they will sound pretty darn good.
The issue becomes what to do with the PCE 216 6.5" component set, ideally they would go into kick panel pods, however it is going to be very difficult to do that with a 6.5" woofer, and because you already have a 6.5" you would be better off, IMO with the PCE 210 4" component set , in kick panel pods, or the PCE 213 5.25" component set for the pods. 94
