Help - How to properly install your new head unit? - Audio Noob
Does anyone have any guides with pics to which wires go to which wire..??? I searched and most of the guides are confusing as hell.. thanks..
Go to you local Best Buy or Circuit Shitty and tell them you need a harness for the year make and model of your car. The harness will cost you about $17. Then the harness will plug directly into the plug that came out of the back of your factory radio. The wires on the harness will match up exaclty to the wires on the back of the radio. Then twist and tape them together or use snow caps or butt connectors or what ever. As far as mounting the deck in the car and removing the factory radio you will need to tell us what the year make and model the car is.

refer to page 8 and 9. Connect the wires accordingly. For example, you want to connect the rear right speaker. You take the purple wire from the aftermarket headunit (which is the positive wire: +), and splice it to the red wire with the yellow stripe (which is also a positive +) from the stock radio wiring. Then you take the purple wire with black stripe from the aftermarket headunit (negative wire) and connect it to the brown wire with the white stripe (also a negative wire) from the stock radio wiring.
Hopefully I simplified it enough for you to understand.

BTW, what is the make and model of the HU you are installing?
If you are using the HUs internal amp to run some speakers, you may have to wire the HUs constant power, [yellow] directly to the batt. instead of the white/blue oem radio harnesses constant power to get enough current to the HU.

What brand and model number is your headunit? The dimmer wire controls the illumination of a stock deck (turn on the headlights, you'll see the dash lights and stock stereo lights turn on).
The reason I'm asking which head unit you have, is that in my experience, not all aftermarket stereos utilize that wire.

Refer to page 55 of the above. The dimmer wire on the Kenwood harness is the orange wire with white stripe. I noticed in the Install Dr. wire diagram for Hondas that there isn't a dimmer wire for a Civic. So you can just ignore the dimmer wire. Tape off the end of the dimmer wire with electric tape to seal off any exposed wire. Any more questions, feel free to ask.
