1990 Honda Civic Hatchback head problems?
I got a this Honda with 181,000 miles on it. All of a sudden It was idling really rough. I had a friend that's a mechanic, him and I were going thru the car. We found that I had no compression in one cylinder (second away from the distributor) and very little another (closest to the distributor). We checked to make sure the timing belt was lined up, it was. He said that the valves may have burnt out and I need to replace the head. I trust him, but I was wondering if it could also be the head gasket. I'm not getting any abnormal smoke, I have a complete loss of power, and the idle is insanely rough. You can actually hear/feel the firing order. If anyone could give me a hand that would be awesome.
I'm having the same issue with my d15 only it does blow a little white or white/blueish smoke at first start up and at high rpm's it runs fine. Also on mine my computer says I have a bad fuel injector error code 16. I dunno if that could be the problem or a blown headgasket. I'd like to know some steps to resolution on this as well.
Was it an instant lose of power? Or was it over a grace period? If it took a few weeks it's probably a blown valve. At that point it's cheaper to swap the motor then it is to do a valve job. A blow headgasket can be noticed months before it fully fails. My head gasket on my D15B2 was pootched and it still rocked as hard as other D15B2. It would leak oil out of the head and block like crazy tho.
i had the problem in my civic to. it ended up being a burnt valve so i replaced it and did a touch up to the other valves, it cost me 500 bucks i was pissed, wish i would of just saved up and got a new motor. thats what i am saving for now.

All right, I have a d15b2. I knew I forgot something when I posted.

I do have some oil leak, I am almost positive its coming from the seals on the crankshaft and camshaft pulley. I do go thru oil kinda fast but lately its gotten better. The sparks plugs looked like they were corroted, I but cheap gas... The mechanic I know said thats usually the problem.

I remember that one morning I fired up the car and it ran insanely rough, I was kinda worried I threw a rod, but I didn't hear any knocking. I checked to see if the timing belt had slipped after I found there was no compression in the 2 cylinders, it was lined up correctly. I did have a problem a month or so before, it was stalling at lights or when I came to a stop (its a manual). So I had to keep the engine revved. I adjusted the idle up a little to solve that cause I didn't have time to worry about it.

I did have to pull the valve cover off to check the timing belt, could it be a multiple problem deal.
THANX FOR EVERYONE'S RESPONSES!!!

That wouldn't cause low compression though.
