another VIR incar race vid -- raining and then drying
hi guys.
after watching Evan's terrific vid of the recent VIR races, i got to digging thru some of my old footage; here is some that i don't think i have ever posted up:
http://www.youtube.com/?v=mnRNCsy4tx8
it's from 2004 VIR North course; i was driving the Probenstien in PS-1. it DUMPED rain about 10 minutes before the start of the race, and then during the race it began to dry out. visibility was terrible, especially in the beginning, due to the fact that it was raining and sunny at the same time!?!?!
it was white knuckle for me in the rain; i had on a set of ancient BFG R1s (like 6 or 7 years old) in the front, and i think i had Dunlop SP5000s in the rear....
as the dry line began to appear, the car got better and better. some good footage of some offs, plus battling with rx-7s, miatas, and a pair of SE-Rs. the black SE-R was Harpers (mad dorifto master!), before it had cams, etc. Rosen's car was still beautiful looking (dark blue); he had on a brandy new set of Toyos, and checked out early during the rain!
the last 2-1/2 laps are missing; Chuck and i had been catching up to the leaders, and if there had only been a couple more laps.......
great, fun, great race tho!
todd
PS i was really really abusing the motor on the last 1/3 of the race (i'm a baaaad man). should have been shifting into 5th; instead was holding 4th and wringing it ALL the way out (8200 rpm)! 5th gear ratio really stinks - way too overdrive and just won't pull 5th strongly. 4th is a bit too low for the long straights at VIR, unless you are willing to go 1200+ rpm over redline.... those KL series motors take a licking and keep on ticking!!!
