Default high output alternators

anyone here tried installing a new bosch high output alternators into their crx to power the crazy audio systems that people are installing into their rexes?

I am curious as to its price and it performance/reliability.

Thanks

i picked up a 160 amp one off ebay just cause it was cheaper than buying a stock one and i did not have to turn in a core. My old alt was still good (b-series altrnators are nice to have laying around), just needed more power for a bigger system. I picked up the alt for $165 shipped to my door and it's still a stock case so u don't thave to worry about fitment issues. I have a b-series EF and clearance is important. There are a few good threads on that i have covered and more, i searched them before buying mine to see how they held up on stock wiring. I chose to upgrade to 4 guage wire for main power from alt to battery and i went up to a 80 amp fuse for main battery fuse with no problems. my battery is a optima located behind passenger seat with 1 guage wire from distribution block back to the battery. All in all it was a good upgrade for the hatch, the system is way better, and the up graded headlights dont drag on the alt with the wipers and defrost on I work at autozone and even with my discount it was still like $170 for the stock alt, not including the core so it was kind of a no brainer for me. its funny to see those powdercoated ones we sell for so much more and all they are is powder coated stock alts. i laugh when people buy them, usually ricers and some of the spanish guys that think its better for some reason when u tell them its the same output.

Hey since you work at autozone can you tell me if the 85 civic 1.5L GL sedan alternator would fit onto a 90 crx si motor?

Also would the stock crx alternator work on a b series swap? I want to buy a high output alternator but don't want to buy for a stock crx only to find out that I'm going to swap the engine out with a b18C5 next fall.

Thanks

I just did a voltage measurement on my 90 crx and it appears that my alternator is putting out about 11.5 volts will full acessory/light/rear defogger/hazard flasher load.

That is not including any car amps or stereo being on.

I'm assuming that isn't good?

well i quit autozone cause they suck *** I work at oreily's now though so i will check it out, but as far as i know its not the same. U should have about 13.5-14.0 volts coming off the alt. go to autozone or some where that offers a free battery/charging system test that puts a loag on the sysytem and measures how many amps the alt is pushing out.
