Default SOHC ZC Swap on the way. Got a few Issues to work out!

Well, my car died and it's gonna be way to much to fix it. Screw it, I said, I'm getting an SOHC ZC.

So...

When I buy parts for this motor (Ex. Header, IM, replacement parts, etc.) what do I buy them for? I heard that the ZC was identical to another motor? What is this motor?

Also, I have an Std. civic which was plagued with the 4 speed manual tranny. If i buy a ZC tranny off of H-motors can i just bolt it in or do i have to get new axles as well?

a d16a6 motor is the one it crosses over with here.

if you need parts jsut tell the parts guys you have a 88-91 Si motor. (easiest way to explain it)

you need equal length axles like 90-93 Integra units to match up the ZC trans with big diff.

If you're lucky you might end up with the 4.437 FD tranny

Get a D16A6 tranny and use the stock axles. You will love the shorter gears as much as I do. Alot peppier then the long ZC ones. You need to use the SOHC ZC half shaft and the SOHC ZC axles. Or you can youse 88-89 Teg axles and half shaft. I suggest you use the stock axles with the regular D16A6 tranny. Easier to find, cheaper to replace.

if it were me i would try to find a SI trans. ZC trans is geared pretty good but not as short as SI. Alot of people make a hybrid trans with ZC and SI gear combo's and final drive. Some of the DOHC ZC's came with LSD too but use a halfshaft, and if u dont get it with the trans its pain to find or mod a usdm one to fit anyway there are many threads to see if the trans u have is LSD. One of my boys in VA a while back bought a ZC swap from noyan and decided to use his SI trans with it. he did not know much about the ZC trannies so he offered it to me for free just for helping him do a MPFI swap I was never so happy to look through the diff and see no pin in the middle and daylight, LSD baby!!!! It WAS a option on the DOHC trannies so make sure u check casue u never know what u may get. there was alot of conflict on here at one point as to what intermediate shaft u could use with it and what axles but thanks to helpful people its sorted out with a nice writeup now. Anything would be better than the 4 speed even a dx 5 speed. check around on the classifieds and your local junkyards, u may be able to score a SI trans cheaper than u think, either way it will bot up to the zc just like any d-series. Make sure to get a 88-89 if u have that year or 90-91 casue clutch size is diff and flywheel too. hope i was able to help some bro, sory about the long post

SOHC ZC tranny = same as D16a6 Tranny.
DOHC ZC Tranny = equal length axles.

bolt your Std axles to the SOHC Zc tranny and be done with it.
