What drop requires a camber kit?
Well, I'm in need of some new shocks and springs, so I'm looking into something that is going to lower the car a bit from stock height. It's a 1990 Honda CRX HF with a SOHC D16ZC motor swapped into it.
I'm curious as to how low I can go, without needing to buy a front/rear camber kit.
I'd get them if I had the funds, but at the time, I can't afford it. Plus stock springs are even more expensive then some lowering springs.
Anyway, thanks in advance for the help.

Correct, anytime you change the ride height on your car it will affect how the tire rolls against the ground.
Hondas tend to NEGATIVE CAMBER and TOE-OUT when you drop the ride height.
Get your TOE aligned right away no matter what drop you choose. Its the TOE-OUT that will be wearing your tires on the insides much more than the Neg. Camber.
People getting a camber kit installed WITHOUT a proper TOE alignment will STILL wear their tires!

So basically, if I just get some springs that drop my car about an inch, I'll need a camber kit, even if I get the TOE alignment?
Thanks for the info. Trying to learn.

no.
if yoo get a spring kit that drops your car 1", you need to get an alignment to fix your toe.
skip the camber kit, leave it as is. its not going to harm anything on its own. dialing negative camber out actually makes your car handle worse.

Not everyone knows about that thing called turning Tyson
For the poster... normal drops that create camber aren't the cause of tire wear... camber will wear some... but very very little... IF....the Toe is correctly.
Now if you are more of a straight line person... i'd suggest a kit so you can remove most of the negative camber... and setup the car for the most tread contact possible.

After you have dropped your car.....If money is tight, I'd suggest you use the money for a proper wheel alignment first before you spend money on a camber kit.
Remember, decide on a particular ride height FIRST before you get an alignment. Changing your ride height afterwards will alter your CAMBER and TOE.
I put little marks on my TEINS when I get my CRX aligned so if I know what ride height the alignment was set-up for.
