Default SO hears the plan ... MOtor BuiLD

ok so i am going to stay with the d16a6 in my car
it was a great running motor ..smoked a little from the rings
I will be using the following with the engine: Adjustable fuel pressure regulator, 4-2-1 headers, 2.25 exhaust with racing cat and muffler, cold air intake, Fuel rail

I want to build the best n/a d16a6 sohc i can get
and would like a little input on the build
i plan on using

stock block - new everything

stock crank- nothing done

stock head- new everything- thinking about TopLine coated valves(good for the money i hear) Stock everything else

head gasket- z6 or maybe some performance gasket

pistons- the d16a1 pistons out of a 1st gen acura integra-
I read somewhere that i am looking for the pistons for a 88-89 because the 86-87 werent the high dome pistons - 11-1 compression

rods- Either the stock a6 rods or the a1 rods ...I could use either...Is there any difference?

Intake manifold- D16y8 intake or skunk2 . Which would you suggest

Throttle body- I thought the cheap route is the B20 (easiest for me to find) Which is the best ?

Cam- stock -nothing done. Or should i get a better cam because of the higher compression

Is there any thing i will have to do to accomadate for the higher compession?

Thank you for the time and any suggestions

you are on the right track I think but I would defineately suggest a cam and valve springs..check out the exospeed cams I have heard good things about them....a1 rods are beefier than the a6 rods I have been told....skunk2 manifold>y8> stock a6 manifold...check out maxbore.com to bore whatever TB you get...suggest a port and polish and valve job...with that high comp you will need to run premium fuel. some sort of ecu tuning would help....if you need the a1 rods and pistons I got a set I need to get rid of and will let go for cheap so LMK

dude thats going to be the bigest waste of money ever. with all the money your gonna spend building an all motor single cam like you want to do you could have bought a lower mileage single and a turbo kit and it would be way faster than your all motor set up. and if you still wanna go all motor single cam at the very least put a vtec head on it.

If you **** money, go ahead and build all motor sohc. But you could just buy a dohc or slap a vtec head on it and go turbo for half that price or less.

he really isn't gonna spend that money...just doing a stock rebuild pretty much...but yeah if you want more overal NA power you should go DOHC....but if you want just a fun SOHC I respect that and I think it will be a fun little car

Build whatever you want. Peoples choices are not always to be the FASTEST or who has the most HP. He may enjoy the challenge and time to work on the SOHC rather than swapping or going turbo. to each his own. Have fun and enjoy.

AS far as the block build, this is what you're probably looking for right? 89 integ pistons in a D16A6.

I know your main concern is the block since its smoking(?) but in my opinion, the best performance out of the D16A6 is doing up the cylinder head first. You can really bring out alot out of that engine by doing headwork and cams.

The high compression will help alot of course in performance, but the better flowing head and cam that has a stronger powerband is what really livens up that motor. Dont forget to do some stuff to the head. at least upgrade the valvetrain so its stronger and can use a cam that you can take up to 8K RPM.

UltimX. thanks for the

I wish you the best on your build be it a H, K, B, D, ZC it is always fun to build. I hope you lay down the numbers you want. As stated above there is a lot of power in the head that can be brought out.

gnar kill: How much you want for them? are the rods and pistons attatched ? if so hows the bearings?Trade anything for them?(low on cash right now)Also looking for a complete head for a d16a1(no cams) thank you for the advice.

looks like i will p&p the head, and up grade cam after the initial build. Since it is really easy to instal.

I do plan on upgrading the valve train. the toplines i mentioned are rated for 9600 rpm
I was to by race engineering that new stock springs would be fine for 8000 rpm

e jay one: efnewb91: It's not going to cost that much. I am doing 90% of the work myself .After everything, including a full gasket set ,it wont cost me more than $800. from all the prices i have

exospeedAMcrx: that looks like it I will be there very soon.....after i find employment anyways

What abaout a sohc zc cam?

ANd what number Can i Expect?
i really dont know
i guess 150 bhp or something

I take my post back, I respect you for doing everything yourself and building an all motor sohc. Should be very reliable. Kudos and good luck
